Small Caps Break Their Winning Streak

The index focused on small-cap stocks fell 1.8%, trailing both the S&P 500 and other major U.S. benchmarks.

Before its drubbing to end the week, the Russell 2000 as of Thursday had beaten the broad-based S&P 500 for 14 straight trading sessions, its longest streak of outperformance since 1996.

Small-cap stocks tend to outperform in market environments like the recent one, in which investors are optimistic about economic growth.
