Oil Extends Fall as Traders Assess Russia-Ukraine Peace Talk Prospects

The S&P 500 and the Russell 2000 are all set to close at new highs on Friday, which will cap the first full trading week of 2026. Both indexes could see more gains if history repeats itself.

In six of the past seven years, the index’s performance in the first five trading days has predicted its full-year performance, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

On average, the index has eked out a 14.2% gain when the S&P rose in that five-day window.
