The S&P 500 began Tuesday’s session on track for a fifth day of gains, but UnitedHealth Group dragged down the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The S&P 500 was up 0.2%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 400 points, or 0.8%.

“Following last night’s announcement that the U.S. government proposed a much lower-than-expected payment increase of just 0.09% for Medicare Advantage plans in 2027, coupled with a tepid revenue outlook for the year ahead, shares of UnitedHealth Group (UNH) and many of its peer stocks are down sharply,” writes Bespoke Investment Group co-founder Paul Hickey.
