Fed’s Williams welcomes inflation data, not ready to seek rate cuts

Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams told Reuters he welcomed the arrival of softer consumer inflation data but said that positive news is not enough to call for the U.S. central bank to cut interest rates sometime soon.

Market Impact

The New York Fed leader, one of the top voices at the central bank who also serves as vice-chairman of the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee, was interviewed in the wake of inflation data indicating a welcome slowdown, renewing Wall Street hopes the Fed might cut interest rates this year.
