Doctors Rush To Sunny Hostin's Aid After She ‘Almost Died’ On-Air

Sunny Hostin had a terrifying health scare on the set of “The View” last week, and it all went down while the cameras were rolling.

The 56-year-old co-host revealed on Friday’s episode that she “almost died” during Wednesday’s taping after unknowingly eating a dish that contained walnuts, to which she has a severe allergy.

Sunny Hostin’s close call happened during a cooking segment with former “View” co-host Debbie Matenopoulos, who was on the show promoting her new Greek cookbook.

“As I’m eating the food, Alyssa asks, ‘Are those walnuts in here?’ And [Debbie] says, ‘Yes.’ So I panic immediately,” Hostin recalled.

Despite the food being “wonderful,” Hostin said she has a “terrible allergy to walnuts” and instantly began to worry.

In the footage shown on Friday, Hostin can be seen shaking her head “no” as executive producer Brian Teta looks on, concerned. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was seated beside her, appeared alarmed and mouthed “Oh, no!” on camera.

Hostin said she even wrote what she called a “death note” to Griffin, who admitted during the follow-up segment that she couldn’t initially read what the note said but sensed something was wrong. “I could tell she was having a bad reaction,” Griffin said. “It was scary.”

Though visibly panicked, Hostin finished out the segment before being attended to by on-site medical professionals.

“Our Disney nurses are like superheroes,” she said, praising their quick response. “Nurse Jan came in with an EpiPen. She was testing me. I had Benadryl. I was scared.”

According to Hostin, this was the first time in over a decade she’s had a reaction that serious.

The offending dish was an orzo salad with walnuts, part of a spread that also included spanakopita, a traditional Greek pastry made with spinach and feta, prepared by Matenopoulos, who was one of “The View”‘s original co-hosts when it debuted in the late 1990s.

Fortunately, the frightening moment had a happy ending, and by Friday’s show, the co-hosts were able to laugh about the incident. Griffin added, “We’re just glad you made it through.”

Her near-death experience isn’t the only reason why Hostin made headlines this week.

During a recent episode of “The View’s Behind the Table” podcast, Hostin addressed the now-infamous interview from October 2024, where she asked Kamala Harris a pointed question about whether there was anything she would have done differently than Joe Biden during their time in office. Harris’ response, “Not a thing comes to mind,” was widely criticized and, according to some political analysts, marked a major turning point in her bid for the presidency.

Hostin, who has long voiced her support for Harris and even predicted she’d win the election, said she felt “terrible” that the moment became such a damaging soundbite.

“I knew it instantly when she answered it,” Hostin recalled. “Which is why I asked the follow-up question, ‘Is there one thing?’ Because I knew, I could see the soundbite and I knew what was going to happen. But I thought it was a really fair question, and I thought it was a question that she would expect.”

Hostin’s question, though straightforward, ended up being replayed in countless political ads funded by the Trump campaign, which aimed to tie Harris directly to Biden’s unpopular policies and declining public support.

Podcast host and “View” executive producer Brian Teta jokingly quipped that Hostin had “single-handedly taken down the Democratic Party,” a remark Hostin countered with both a laugh and a sense of regret.
