Jumanji 4 is now in production, and we got a first glimpse of the player characters in the upcoming film. This upcoming adventure comedy will take place after 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level and will feature the return of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. Based on the latest image, their next level isn’t in the jungle anymore.

A new photo was released on the official social media channels for the Jumanji Movie, featuring the player characters in their jungle get-up, but facing the real world. At the moment, the plot for Jumanji 4 has yet to be teased, but the photo could be a reference to Jumanji: The Next Level. After one touch, a horde of animals appears in the real world, which catches the attention of Spencer and his friends.

Jumanji 4 has yet to announce its official name, and it’s set to come out in 2026. According to Johnson, the feature will pay tribute to Robin Williams, honoring his work in the 1995 Jumanji film that started the series. Also set to return for the franchise’s reportedly final installment are Danny DeVito and Nick Jonas.

What’s ‘Jumanji’ About?

Jumanji is a film franchise based on the 1981 children’s picture book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. The 1995 film starred Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, and Bonnie Hunt, where they play Jumanji — a magical board game where the action and consequences affect the real world, and the only way to undo everything is to finish the game. In 2017, a reboot of the film was released, in which Jumanji is no longer a board game but a video game that sucks players into the console and forces them to play as their avatar characters, each with strengths and weaknesses. While the video game version of Jumanji does not affect the real world, if a player loses all their lives, they die in real life.

The Jumanji film reboots were a huge success, grossing more than the 1995 film. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle earned over $961 million, making it the 5th-highest-grossing film of 2017, between Despicable Me 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Meanwhile, Jumanji: The Next Level didn’t match its predecessor, but still earned an impressive $792 million worldwide.
