DWTS' Robert Irwin Reveals How Fame Makes Dating Difficult

Robert Irwin has earned legions of new fans on Dancing With the Stars, but he knows that his newfound fame has its downsides.

“Holy moly, that’s so challenging to navigate,” Irwin, 21, said of his dating life in a recent profile with The New York Times, noting that, “Anything you do will be on TikTok the next day.”

The Australian wildlife conservationist spoke to the outlet ahead of the Tuesday, November 25, Dancing With the Stars season 34 finale, where he and professional dance partner Witney Carson are among the finalists competing for the coveted mirrorball trophy.

Irwin had no dance experience before signing up for the hit ABC dancing competition, but his perseverance to learn various ballroom routines has taken him and Carson all the way to the finals.

“I’m held together with tape and a prayer at this point,” he told the New York Times during rehearsals. “I feel like I am at my limit, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Carson, 32, told the outlet just how seriously Irwin has been taking the show.

“He puts so much pressure on himself,” she said. “He’s a perfectionist. He just puts his heart and soul into everything and makes you want to be better.”

During Tuesday’s DWTS season 34 finale, Irwin will compete against Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, influencers Alix Earle and Dylan Efron and actress Elaine Hendrix for the chance to win the mirrorball trophy.

Irwin and Carson previously opened up to Us Weekly about their strong bond, and Carson even revealed that she was playing matchmaker for her celebrity partner.

“We are just having the best time. I feel like we’ve become like this brother and sister duo,” Irwin told Us in October.

Carson added, “100 percent. I feel very protective over him, especially when the DMs get a little crazy. I get a little protective.”

“He is an absolute dream partner and very humble,” Carson gushed. “I gotta knock him down a little bit sometimes, keep you grounded, critique you a little bit more. But no, he is just as great as you guys see on TV.”

In September, Carson joked about the number of women sliding into her DMs to be set up with the Australian heartthrob.

“Girls, I love ya [and] thank you for the applications through somehow my email and flooding the DMs,” Carson wrote via her Instagram Stories. “If I could line you all up with Robert, I would because you’re all 10/10 perfect cuties.”

She added, “We are currently dancing our lives away, so we are unable to respond. Robert for Bachelor?! Idk this is too stressful for me to handle.”

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
