How Lily Allen's Album Validated $10,000 Weekly Rehab Stay

Lily Allen‘s new album “West End Girl” may have just marked the beginning of her healing.

Released in the wake of her split from David Harbour, the 14-track body of work lays bare the ordeal she experienced during the breakup and has already been widely termed a “revenge album.”

Between dropping the music work, which fans welcomed heartily, and seeking professional support, Allen is taking steps toward rebuilding herself, and she recently expressed gratitude.

In a recent interview, the 40-year-old singer said she felt genuinely seen by the public’s reaction to the project.

“Firstly, I’m overwhelmed and massively grateful,” Allen told Anthony Mason on CBS Mornings, adding that the project’s viral success has helped her process her emotions.

Given that she has always written music as a form of healing, Allen said it feels “affirming and validating” when listeners connect with the pain behind her lyrics and acknowledge how “messed up” her experience was.

The British star also revealed she checked herself into an £8,000 ($10,000) per week treatment center after the separation. Reflecting on that difficult period, she joked, “Now I know why I had to check myself into a treatment center!”

About ten months before the release, Allen was reportedly seeking professional help as the breakup impacted her mental health.

According to Daily Mail, her emotional state worsened after returning from a holiday to their New York home in January, especially due to fears that Harbour might have been elsewhere in the city with another woman.

A source said the situation was painful for Allen, noting that the “Stranger Things” actor who once felt like her “savior” had become a trigger.

After settling her daughters, Ethel and Marnie, back into their school routine, Allen immediately flew to rehab. She even arrived a day earlier than planned because she felt unstable and desperate for help.

Discussing the inspiration behind the work, Allen described it as “an act of desperation” created during the collapse of her four-year marriage.

Though the storyline centers on a deceptive partner, Allen has clarified that the album is both true and fictional. While she initially considered keeping it private, she soon realized that hiding it would prevent her recovery.

Now that it’s out, she says the release has been “utterly liberating.” In her words:
