James Gunn Reveals Ryan Reynolds Wanted to Appear in Peacemaker
The DC Universe almost got a crossover nobody saw coming. Peacemaker creator James Gunn has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds was interested in appearing on the hit Max series — but the idea never made it past the planning stage.
During a recent interview, Gunn explained that he and Reynolds actually talked about bringing Deadpool into Peacemaker in what would have been one of the most unexpected cameos in superhero TV history.
“I wanted them to open a door and see Deadpool in a room,” Gunn revealed. “And I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it — but I think we would’ve had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that. He wanted to do it!”
The cameo, while hilarious in theory, was ultimately scrapped due to obvious legal and studio hurdles between Marvel and DC. Gunn even laughed that he might regret mentioning it publicly:
“That’s all anybody’s gonna talk about now is f—ing Deadpool in the other room. I should’ve never said it,” Gunn added.
While fans won’t be seeing Reynolds’ Deadpool hanging out with John Cena’s Peacemaker anytime soon, the revelation sparked a wave of online excitement — with many now wondering if a Marvel/DC crossover could ever happen under Gunn’s leadership at DC Studios.
For now, Peacemaker Season 2 continues to expand the new DCU, while Reynolds has already made his triumphant MCU debut in Deadpool 3, uniting fan-favorite characters and setting the stage for what’s next.
