New York Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd in Critical Condition After Shooting: Report


New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is reportedly in critical condition after he was shot in Manhattan early in the morning on Sunday, November 16.

According to the New York Post, Boyd was shot on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue around 2 a.m.

Law enforcement told the New York Post that Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent. The gunman fired two shots.

A Jets spokesman issued a statement to ESPN reporter Rich Cimini after the shooting.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the spokesperson told ESPN.

Boyd was reportedly in and out of consciousness and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.

According to reports, witnesses were uncooperative with police officers after the suspect fled the scene.

Officials say the incident is under investigation and there have been no arrests, but the suspect reportedly fled in a blue BMV.

It is unknown if Boyd had a previous relationship with the suspect, and officials are still unclear about what occurred leading up to the incident.

The Athletic reporter Jimmy Durkin posted photos on his X account of the scene on Sunday afternoon, showing police tape around the area, as well as an NYPD car still blocking off the road.

After finishing his college career at University of Texas, Boyd was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 draft. He played four seasons in Minnesota before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. He signed with the Houston Texans later that year, before signing a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the Jets this offseason.

He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the preseason and has been on the team’s injured reserve list since August 18.

The NFL community showed its support for the player on social media after the report, including Boyd’s Jets teammate Jermaine Johnson.

“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!!” Johnson posted via X. “Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety. Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely.

NFL commentator Emmanuel Acho, who, like Boyd, played football at the University of Texas, also posted on his X.

“Praying for @TexasFootball alum, and current Jets player, Kris Boyd. This is too much man.”

The Jets are not in action on Sunday, after losing to the New England Patriots on Thursday, November 13.

It’s a mostly-down season for the team, sitting at 2-8 and last in their division after Thursday’s loss.

After seven consecutive losses to start the year, the Jets strung together two wins in a row, before their eighth loss on Thursday.
