Jodie Turner-Smith has hit out at Disney for failing to protect Acolyte co-star Amandla Stenberg stars from Star Wars trolls.
The British actor played Mother Aniseya in The Acolyte, a spin-off show that was cancelled after being review bombed by viewers who sent âvitriolicâ messages to its lead star Amandla Stenberg.
Stenberg has been vocal about their experience, revealing that they received âhyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudiced hatred and hateful languageâ after being cast in the show. They said the remarks âreally affected me when I first got the jobâ.
In a new interview with Glamour, Turner-Smith called out Disney for staying silent on the abuse Stenberg was subjected to, stating: âTheyâve got to stop doing this thing where they donât say anything when people are getting f***ing dog-piled on the internet with racism and bulls***. Itâs just not fair to not say anything. Itâs really unfair.â
She jumped to the defence of her co-star, adding: âShe put so much care and thought and love into that, and itâs disappointing to feel like your studio is not having your back in a very public-facing way.â
Turner-smith said studios âthat have all the moneyâ, like Disney, should say âthis is unacceptableâ or âyouâre not a fan if you do thisâ as âthey might find that itâs actually more lucrative for themâ.
She continued: âMake a really big statement and just see if any money leaves. I bet you it wonât, because people of colour, and especially Black people, make up a very large percentage of buying power. They might find that itâs actually more lucrative for them, but everyoneâs using âwokeâ like itâs a dirty word.â
The Independent has contacted Disney for comment.
This isnât the first time a non-white actor working on a Star Wars project has found themselves at the centre of racist abuse â John Boyega, who played Finn in the rebooted film trilogy (2015-19), has been open about the racism he faced while starring in the franchise while Kelly Marie Tran, his co-star in 2017âs The Last Jedi, was forced to step away from limelight after receiving a flurry of racist and sexist remarks.
Meanwhile, Moses Ingram had a similar expreience while starring in 2022 spin-off series Obi-Wan Kenobi, with the actor telling The Independent that Lucasfilm executives warned her that she would likely face harassment online from racist Star Wars trolls as a Black woman entering the franchise.

After Ingramâs co-star Ewan McGregor spoke out in support of the actor, Disney shared a statement reading: âWe are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Revaâs story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist,â the tweet read.
The statement continued: âThere are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, donât choose to be a racist.â

CRACK out the Stellas â Men Behaving Badly stars Neil Morrissey and Martin Clunes are reuniting.
The comedy duo are back for a new three-part series called Neil & Martinâs Bon Voyage.

They will be taking on a road trip through France, which has become Neilâs second home, visiting Normandy, the Alps and his own cider apple orchard in the South.
Martin said: âIâve grown to miss Neil more than ever since heâs absconded to a country which he claims has the best scenery, food and wine on earth.
âI intend to find out by devouring the lot of it and seeing what I can remember afterwards.â
The three-parter will air on Gold in 2025 â 30 years after they last shared their BBC comedy flat.
Iâm sure Neilâs French pad is far more hygienic.

Former Great British Bake-Off presenter Sandi Toksvig has reflected negatively on her time on the hit show, as she revealed she doesnât stay in touch with her co-host Noel Fielding.
The 66-year-old quit the series in 2020, having presented it for three years and despite receiving âthe biggest paycheque of my lifeâ.
In an honest new interview with The Times, Toksvig explained that she did not enjoy her time on the show and doesnât stay in touch with her co-presenters.
When asked about Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, she said: âHeâs so busy. He drives cars so fast itâs impossible to catch himâ. When asked if she was in touch with Might Boosh star Fielding, she said simply: âNo.â
She gave a warmer response about judge Prue Leith, saying: âPrue and I are joined at the hip.â
Toksvig, who is also known for hosting QI, described being on Bake Off as âthree of the longest years of my lifeâ, adding that she did not understand the point of the show and had never watched it prior to joining.
âItâs not for me. I walked away from the biggest paycheque of my life, but thatâs fine. Iâd never watched it. I still havenât watched it. I didnât understand it.â
Going even further, she said: âCakes are readily available in the shops. I didnât enjoy the process. You stand at the end of a long table for hours when Prue and Paul taste everything and we literally didnât speak or taste anything.
âI used to say, âCan we not sit down? Iâm not contributing,â but no.â
She didnât enjoy tasting the food after filming either, remarking: âNot really. My thing is cheese.â
Pointless presenter and author Richard Osman hit out at Toksvig as he commented on a post about the article, saying: âI honestly donât think you should present shows you wouldnât watch.â

Viewers were unnerved by the revelations, as one person wrote: âI loved Sandi on the show, this has tainted it for me.â
âWhy take the gig hosting a show you clearly hate?â said another, agreeing with Osman.
However, others defended the comedian as they said, âShe is 66 and can happily play the grumpy old lady character that likes a sit-down now.â

ok. Magaly, no tiene porque ser cierto que tengas algo que ver con Chibolin, pero tampoco vas a distraer, ese destape, pues es uno de los mas grandes de la historia peruana, toda las mafias con las que chibolin esta metido, que no vas a distraer con lo de Farfan … que se puede esperar de gente como la gente de Farfan.. son lo mismo que cueva pero quizas peor, pero lo de CHIBOLIN es grave y eso no se va a tapar con un hecho que supuestamente paso en casa de Farfan, sea cierto o no, es una noticia pero no mas grande que lo de Chibolin eso no se borra con nada

Si fueron siempre amigos Gisela y Chibolin desde hace muchos años inclusive recuerdo un programa que hizo Gisela se llamaba Chiquiestrellas también estaba chibolin en el mismo canal asà que por mås que Gisela quiera decir otras cosas ellos siempre fueron amigos
