Russell Brand claims he’s found God in Hurricane Milton – while he’s 200 miles away in Miami

Russell Brand says he found God in the “middle” of Hurricane Milton – despite being hundreds of miles from the eye of the storm.

The controversial comedian and podcaster shared a video message with his followers from Miami, which is 180 miles from Sarasota County where Milton made landfall Wednesday night. Miami was not directly in the storm’s path.

“In the middle of this crazy storm, [it is] worth thinking how the metaphor of the storm affects us all,” he says in the clip.

“Like animals, I think we can feel something unusual is happening and pray for the people in Tampa, Sarasota and all those that are affected elsewhere directly by this.

“I was taught from Matthew that when the Apostles were dealing with a storm Peter first asks when he sees our Lord on the water ‘Is that you’ and you don’t get out of the boat until you know it’s Jesus, until you know it’s the Lord who’s saying ‘yes, come,’ he says yes and you can get out of the boat.

“But unlike Peter when you’re out of the boat you’ve got to keep your eyes fixed on the Lord because if you take your eyes off Jesus the storm could devour you.

“The storm I suppose is a demonstration of the almighty power that is beyond our control,” he says. “As a metaphor it helps me to understand that I must listen and watch for Christ.”

Brand captioned his post: “From the edge of the hurricane. Finding God in the storm.”

Last year, an investigation by UK’s Channel 4 alleged Brand was a rapist and a sexual and emotional abuser after four women came forward to accuse him. He denied the allegations and has since rebranded as a born-again Christian.

The 49-year-old comedian was baptized by Bear Grylls in April, which he called an “opportunity to leave the past behind.”

Brand has strongly denied all accusations and told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson in a YouTube interview that the claims were “very, very hurtful.”

At least six people have died after Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Sarasota County’s Siesta Key, bringing destructive tornadoes, 28ft waves, strong winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge across multiple areas.

The National Weather Service generated 111 tornado warnings as the storm thrashed the state’s Gulf side, breaking a 2017 record.

After landfall, Milton has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane and moved off Florida’s east coast – with residents still battling against brutal winds and storm surge.

Slow Horses star Kristin Scott Thomas secretly marries journalist chief

Kristin Scott Thomas, who plays the ruthless MI5 spymaster, Diana Taverner, in the hit TV drama Slow Horses, has secretly married John Micklethwait, the editor-in-chief of Bloomberg.

The couple, who have been together for five years, have told friends the wedding happened in September with just their families present.

Scott Thomas is not the only Slow Horses star to stealthily tie the knot. Earlier this year, the Bafta Award-winner’s co-star, Jack Lowden, who plays River Cartwright in the Apple TV+ series, pulled off a similarly secretive wedding to actor Saoirse Ronan.

Slow Horses is a rare foray into television for Scott Thomas, who was made a dame in 2015.

Since being cast by Prince as his co-star in Under the Cherry Moon in 1986, she has appeared in more than 70 films in both English and French including Four Weddings and a Funeral, The English Patient and Darkest Hour (with fellow Slow Horses star Gary Oldman). She has also appeared often in the West End – most recently in Lyonesse with Lily James.

She spent years living in France and was awarded an upgraded Légion d’honneur in the country’s traditional Bastille Day honours list in 2015.

Mr Micklethwait has run the 2,700-strong newsroom at Bloomberg since 2015. Before joining the American financial information giant, which is owned by the former mayor of New York Mike Bloomberg, Mr Micklethwait was the editor-in-chief of The Economist for nine years.

True to Diana Taverner’s steely reputation, Scott Thomas rarely talks about her personal life. Asked earlier this year about her relationship with Mr Micklethwait by the Financial Times, she replied: “I’m not going to talk about him. I’m talking about me.”

A friend said: “They are a perfect match. Both smart, wry and curious as well as devoted to each other. Everyone is delighted that they have got married after a wonderful five-year romance.”

‘So gross’ rant horrified MAFS UK fans as second secret sex session is revealed - saying ‘I feel sick on so many levels’

MARRIED At First Sight UK fans have admitted they “feel sick” after a sex confession by Adam and Polly the latest episode.

The newlyweds have hardly been in marital bliss since they were first paired up on the show, with Adam making no secret of the fact he doesn’t find Polly sexually attractive.

Despite sleeping together on their wedding night, Adam has pulled away from Polly, saying he didn’t want to ‘lead her on and hurt her’.

On Wednesday night’s episode, Polly and Adam were seen having dinner with their best mates, catching them up on what was going on.

Polly admitted that they “weren’t where she wants to be sexually” prompting Adam’s best mate Richard to encourage him to try and be more physically intimate.

The next day, during drinks with the rest of the couples, the pair were seen giggly – prompting others to notice.

Pulled aside by fellow bride Holly, Polly said: “After yesterday, one thing led to another… your girl got what she wanted.”

Adam also confirmed it to the rest of the gang, and said: “I took a very big step forward. I need stop being stubborn, forget the whole type thing, and you’ve kind of just go with the flow. And if it works, it works. If it don’t, it don’t.”

“It happened really naturally. It was great, and hopefully it just now continues, and it can only go further for him with the attraction,” added Polly.

“For me, because I know how I feel about him, and I want it to go that way. I hope that it does.”

But fans were a bit taken aback but their new sex session, believing Adam was “coerced” into doing so by Polly and his pal despite him making it clear he didn’t want to.

Venting on X, one wrote: “I’m sorry, if this was a man going to his reluctant wife ‘go on, why don’t we have sex, even though you’ve said 100 TIMES you don’t want to” we’d be calling it coercion and phoning the police. Polly needs to respect Adam, and herself, this is embarrassing.”

“The sympathy shag that he’s been pressured into and then congratulated for, so gross,” said another.

“That fact he was basically bullied in to shagging her is so depressing for everyone involved,” noted a third.

While a fourth said: “Wait so now adam is just sleeping with this girl he’s not into. I feel sick on so many levels about this. ”

“Idk how polly did it. I would literally pass away from mortification if I had to beg a man that much for Sex,” wrote a fifth.

During the first commitment ceremony after the first week, Adam was called out by the experts for his lack of affection towards Polly.

Quizzed about why he has been cold with her, Adam said he didn’t want to give her the wrong impression.

“If I’m affectionate with her and cuddling kissy with her, I don’t want to give her the wrong idea because I don’t want to hurt her,” Adam explains.

But Paul C Brunson had none of it, firing back: “But you are married and you have already had sex.”

Trying to explain his reasons for having sex with Polly, Adam counters: “That felt natural at the time, you know what I mean?”

“It’s nonsense, my man,” said Paul. “It’s like you want to swim in the pool, but you don’t want to get wet.”

Married At First Sight UK continues weekdays at 9pm on E4.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

EastEnders airs emotional exit for legendary character as fans beg bosses for their return

EASTENDERS has aired an emotional exit for a legendary character – leaving fans devastated.

Fans of the long-running BBC One soap were recently left delighted as David Wicks returned to the Square.

Played by Michael French, the character had last appeared in EastEnders a decade ago.

His return coincided with his daughter Bianca Jackson’s spiralling mental health

David was also reunited with former flame Cindy Beale and came face-to-face with his half brother Ian.

However, he left Walford yet again in tonight’s emotional episode as he said goodbye to Albert Square.

It came after he caught Cindy and Junior passionately kissing behind The Vic.

He initially was set on exposing their affair to Ian but Cindy later talked him around – just as David declared his love her.

But the romantic moment was ruined as he received a text from an unknown woman, prompting Cindy to exclaim “you haven’t changed”.

As the pair exchanged more heated words, David decided he was going to reveal the affair to Ian and marched into the pub.

But Ian stopped him as he revealed he wanted them to call a truce, which disarmed David.

Outside, David said goodbye to Cindy and they shared a kiss and told each other they both loved one another.

David then returned to Dots and asked Bianca to leave Walford with him and go up North, which she declined.

He then told her: “You’ll go to the doctors, yeah?

“Bianca, swear to me and I will call you after.”

She then told him: “I hope it works out for you, I really do.”

Fans have been left devastated by the scenes and called on bosses to keep Michael French in the show.

One said: “Return David to the canvas for good. If you need more money to pay Michael French #EastEnders then we will start a gofundme or just eliminate about six lesser actors of campus we will allow.”

A second wrote: “They should totally bring back Michael French for a longer stint – every scene David was in was just brilliant.”

“Petition to have David Wicks return permanently – SORT IT OUT EASTENDERS,” said a third.

EastEnders stars who QUIT

MICHELLE Collins has seen her second EastEnders stint boost her bank balance. Yet what stars have quit this year?

The Sun exclusively reported how Michelle, 62, was down to £20,000 in her company accounts when she agreed to a shock back-from-the-dead return to Albert Square last year.

Her character, Cindy Beale, was presumed dead off-camera in 1998.

Yet what about the 2024 exits?

Earlier this summer, loyal soap fans appeared to note how Stevie Mitchell had “quit” the long-running series.

It came after Alan Ford enjoyed just six-months on-screen.

Bobby Beale actor Clay Milner Russell also left this year after five years in Walford.

Fans also feared Martin Fowler actor James Bye would “quit out of boredom” over recent storylines.

Additionally, a host of stars have quit the BBC soap for Hollywood fame.

One of the most successful stars to come from the BBC One soap is Rob Kazinsky.

He played Stacey Slater’s brother Sean Slater from 2006 to 2009, he has starred in Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Captain Marvel.

Ben Hardy, who quit EastEnders as Bobby Beale almost a decade ago, went on to break Hollywood the following year, when he starred as Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Since then, he has played Roger Taylor in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and he starred in Michael Bay’s Netflix movie 6 Underground.

Michelle Ryan played Zoe Slater until 2005.

She starred as the lead in short-lived American series Bionic Woman from 2007 to 2008.

CNN viewers concerned after Anderson Cooper is hit in the face during Hurricane Milton report

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was hit in the face with debris while reporting outdoors on Hurricane Milton in Florida as the massive storm made landfall.

The hurricane arrived in the state as a Category 3 storm early Wednesday night near Sarasota County’s Siesta Key, bringing destructive tornadoes, 28ft waves, strong winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge across multiple areas.

The National Weather Service generated 111 tornado warnings as the storm thrashed the state’s Gulf side, breaking a 2017 record.

Facing wind speeds of more than 150mph, Cooper in Bradenton, Florida, Wednesday night to report on unfolding carnage.

“The water now is really starting to pour over,” said an already drenched Cooper while speaking to the camera on a walkway beside the Manatee River.

Things didn’t get much better for the 57-year-old news veteran as seconds later, the elements propelled a white object right into his face, momentarily dazing him.

“Well, that wasn’t good,” he said. “We’ll probably go inside shortly.”

Things weren’t much better for Cooper’s colleague Bill Weir in St Petersburg, who was literally swept off of the screen during his report.

Although sending reporters out into dangerous storms isn’t uncommon, viewers still couldn’t help but be concerned for Cooper.

On X/Twitter, one person wrote: “What does putting Anderson Cooper on a pier in the middle of the ocean at the height of a hurricane in its centre achieve in informing viewers? It’s like 120mph winds. Get my sweet porcelain glass anchor inside.”

Another said: “‘It’s important for everyone to stay inside’ the FEMA rep tells CNN while Anderson Cooper is fighting for his life in Florida in the split screen.”

A third added: “You know it’s serious when they send Anderson Cooper into the eye of the storm I thought he must have a clause in his contract that he doesn’t do this anymore.”

A fourth joked: “I like how CNN sees no problem with putting Anderson Cooper smack dab in the center of Hurricane Milton but somehow draw the line at letting him drink on New Year’s Eve.”

The CNN host wasn’t the only reporter putting themselves in harm’s way on Wednesday night.

A tree fell on Fox News correspondent Robert Ray’s car

Fox Weather correspondent Robert Ray felt the full force of Hurricane Milton shortly before the storm made landfall. “We just had this entire tree snap and fall right on our vehicles,” Ray said on Fox Weather.

The reporter had just finished a live report showing the Manatee River before he walked into his vehicle and looked at his phone.

“And then, all of a sudden, boom!” Ray recalled. “The whole tree just comes down and partially goes into the vehicle where [cameraman] Lloyd is.”

“For sure a hurricane wind gust to take down a tree like that,” he added.

After the tree fell, Ray said there was a “bit of a chaotic moment” when he asked if everyone was alright and he “couldn’t hear a darn thing” because of the roaring winds.

Laura Vaughan's Married At First Sight diary: 'Polly & Adam's marriage is toxic - it's even worse than my year'

MARRIED At First Sight is heating up with a wife swap looming, a newlywed couple on the rocks and more dinner party bust-ups.

Three new couples prepare to join the other couples tonight but it looks like it’s all about to kick off, with one bride storming out.

One couple has already called it a day and left the experiment, and other couples barely holding on by a thread.

MAFS icon and straight-talking star Laura Vaughan, 34, is here to give brutally honest opinion on the couples so far – and reveals which couples won’t make it to the final vow.

If you are as obsessed as Married At First Sight as I am, you need to keep reading, as I’ve got some thoughts...

It’s toxic – they’ve got to go!

Laura thinks Polly and Adam are a match made in hell

I’m just catching up with the last few episodes, where we’ve had in-laws week and there are some couples I just need to talk about.

We saw Adam and Polly’s in-law week, I’m not going to lie guys…I don’t get it, I’m not feeling it.

I’m not sure why Adam’s still there, it’s giving JJ [Slater] vibes from my season, but maybe slightly less kind.

He’s already sleeping with her, which is just providing really mixed messages. You either fancy her or you don’t.

I feel like he’s sleeping with her and then saying ‘well, I’ve done that now, so you can’t moan anymore about me not liking you’.

“I feel like it’s quite TOXIC!”

Hannah and Stephen’s honeymoon, oh my gosh!

Dramatic moment TWO brides storm out of explosive MAFS row – and furious groom SMASHES set after quitting dinner party

What really interested me is they’re talking about things and referencing cameras and they’re saying ‘you told me you’re going to say this on camera’.

We we told during last season that we weren’t allowed to reference cameras whatsoever.

So that makes me think that the argument they had was so so explosive, that the production couldn’t edit around it.

I’m going to be really honest with you, Hannah has reached out to me separately and she seems like a really nice girl.

But what I witnessed last night in the explosive honeymoon exchange, was that I think she’s dealing with some self-esteem issues.

The fact that Stephen keeps wanting time away from her, is playing into her fear or rejection and that’s why she’s entering every single conversation like she’s going into the boxing ring.

She in her own words to me, says that she feels like she goes on a journey, so I’m excited to see what it’s like, because at the moment she’s coming across as a very fiery girl and I’m not sure Stephen can handle it.

We love a strong direct queen – but she’s giving me a run for my money

Laura thinks it's game over for Richelle and Orson

Richelle and Orson’s argument, I feel it just came out of the blue.

She’s found out that he’s an actor and she’s unhappy because she feels he’s acting throughout this entire process.

She’s the one causing the scene.

You have just blown up at this poor guy out of nowhere. We love a direct queen, don’t get me wrong, we love a strong direct queen, but she’s giving me a run for my money.

I actually don’t think we’re getting the full story here. I think there is something going on behind-the-scenes that we don’t know about, which might explain why she’s so angry at him.

Laura’s daily verdict –

In summary, Caspar and Emma and Polly and Adam need to write LEAVE at the next commitment ceremony…because quite frankly neither of you seem to fancy your wives or get on as people at all.

And protect Shannan and Ryan at all costs!

The Office mystery cleared up by stars of hit sitcom

The Office mystery cleared up by stars of hit sitcom

The Office star Jenna Fischer has shed light on why Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson) never got a special recognition as manager at the end of the series.

The NBC show ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, having been adapted from the UK series. A spin-off show is in the works, with an Australian adaptation is set to air later this month.

Schrute obsessively longs to be manager, enacting a series of harebrained plans through the years, before eventually achieving his goal in the final season.

However, he is never featured as a manager in the title credits, despite other replacements for Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell), including Andy Bernard (Ed Helms), getting the full managerial treatment.

Fischer, who played office admin Pam Beasley, reached out to David Rogers who directed the final season’s penultimate episode “A.A.R.M” (Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager), to understand why.

In an episode of their rewatch podcast,Office Ladies, Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played uptight accountant Angela, explained that the reasons were more logistical.

“There was discussion about adding a Dwight-as-manager shot at the end of this title sequence,” explained Fischer.

“But, ultimately, they never filmed anything new for it, and here is why: The main reason was they wanted to use Pam and Jim kissing as the final image in the main title for several episodes because they felt that, at this point, the idea of who is his manager had been eclipsed by the character’s personal lives, and they felt like the focus here of these final episodes was more about summing up Jim and Pam.”

Show aired from 2005 to 2013

She explained that Rogers told her that “they were really pressed for time, and they literally didn’t have time to shoot a new little manager title with Dwight.

“And also there was so much in this episode that they had to make the main titles really short anyway. So there were kind of three reasons.”

Fischer also revealed that she had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of breast cancer last year, in a post on Instagram earlier this week, but shared she is now cancer free.

“Triple positive breast cancer is an aggressive form of breast cancer but it is also highly responsive to treatment,” Fischer said.

She revealed she “had a lumpectomy to remove the tumour” in January of this year and the “cancer was caught early and it hadn’t spread into my lymph nodes or throughout the rest of my body.”

“I’m happy to say I’m feeling great,” she continued. “I lost my hair during chemotherapy but thanks to some great wigs and hats with hair (which my family affectionately called Wigats) I have been able to wait until now to reveal all that has been going on for me.”
