Tom Selleck vents ‘frustration’ over Blue Bloods cancellation: ‘Taken for granted’

Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck has expressed his frustration over the cancellation of the long-running police procedural, admitting that it will take him “a long time” to get over it.

The 79-year-old actor, who’s led the series as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since its 2010 inception, addressed the series finally coming to an end after 14 seasons.

“I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful,” Selleck told TV Insider.

“I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’” he said, going on to speak about the show’s viewership success.

“I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” he said.

For much of its run, Blue Bloods has aired on Friday nights in the late slot of 10pm on CBS. Yet, it maintained its status as one of TV’s top broadcast dramas, garnering 9.54 million viewers during its 2022-2023 run.

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So, how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” Selleck said.

Blue Bloods is preparing to air its final eight episodes beginning on October 18. It broadcast the first 10 episodes of season 14 earlier this year.

CBS announced the cancellation of the crime drama about a multi-generational family of New York City law enforcement agents in late April.

The decision came in spite of pleas made by Selleck and his co-stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynihan, asking for the network to reconsider.

During a previous joint appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wahlberg and Moynihan reacted to the show’s cancelation.

When asked if they were feeling upset and sad but also happy and satiated by the news, Wahlberg, who stars as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, replied: “More upset and sad.”

Moynihan, who portrays New York County District Attorney Bureau Chief Erin Reagan-Boyle, added: “I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters. We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew – most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything.”

Season 14 of Blue Bloods resumes on October 18 on CBS at 10pm ET/PT.

Joker 2 is a dull and dreary sequel - it feels like an ego project for Joaquin Phoenix

THERE were moments in this sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 brilliant Joker when I was so frustratingly bored I wanted to shout “ARE YOU JOKING?”

Mostly when Joaquin Phoenix, who is not a natural singer, broke into yet another song.

Joker: Folie A Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is a dreary disappointment

A song that was performed in full. Sung at an agonisingly slow pace. With only a close up of his face to look at.

It was not the only annoyance in this woefully dull and dreary film, directed again by Phillips.

There is a spark of promise at the opening, with an animated cartoon of the Joker — whose more human name is Arthur Fleck — reminding us all he’s a mass murderer.

From there, we’re hurtled into a bleak prison where a painfully thin Fleck (Phoenix) has clearly lost his sense of humour.

He’s ridiculed by fellow prisoners, smokes incessantly and seems on strangely good terms with the correctional officer Jackie (Brendan Gleeson).

He decides to pull a few strings to get Fleck into a music class, where hospitalised mental patients sing.

There, he meets Harleen “Lee” Quinzel (Lady Gaga) who declares herself a huge fan.

Soon — after very little conversation — the pair have fallen crazily in love and are performing a musical number together.

Meanwhile, Fleck’s lawyer (Catherine Keener) is trying to make sure he doesn’t get the death penalty.

How is he in a film with Lady Gaga-‘ gasp movie fans as they spot Brit comedy legend in new Joker 2 trailer

Her case is that he has a personality disorder, committing the crimes as The Joker and not as Fleck.

She keeps, boringly, hammering home this point and sets up a strange TV interview with Steve Coogan doing a bad American accent.

Then it’s back and forth to court where long scenes are littered with Fleck and Lee crooning away with songs including For Once In My Life and Gonna Build A Mountain.

Visually, these are often stripped back to their faces and with no elaborate dance sequences or shots in Gotham City to distract.

Gaga’s anticipated follow-up to her impressive turns in A Star Is Born and House Of Gucci is such a let-down.

But it’s no fault of her own. Her character is underwritten and has none of the gum-chewing mania of Quinn in other depictions.

Phoenix is a mighty fine actor, but this Joker feels more like an ego project for him and Phillips, rather than a film for fans.

There’s nothing funny about that.

The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin gets emotional over Liz Cheney ‘speaking out’ against Trump

The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin gets emotional over Liz Cheney ‘speaking out’ against Trump

Alyssa Farah Griffin, former Donald Trump aide-turned-TV presenter, has praised longtime Republican Liz Cheney for putting aside her “ambition” and “career” to endorse Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

On the latest episode of The View, co-host Griffin appeared to get emotional as she spoke out in awe of Cheney, who on Thursday (October 3) pledged her support of Vice President Harris.

“Liz Cheney is one of the people I admire most,” the former Pentagon Press Secretary, 35, said on the latest episode of the ABC talk show.

Recalling how four years ago she “blew up her life, lost a lot of friends, became estranged from family” when she spoke out against Trump, Griffin said: “I watched person after person that I admired and looked up to in politics not speak out and just go along to get along – except for one woman, Liz Cheney.”

As her voice audibly broke, Griffin went on to hail the former Wyoming Representative as a “true leader” who put aside her career, ambition and the pursuit of money to “do what’s right.”

“Juxtaposed to Donald Trump, who’s willing to lie, to steal and to cheat to stay in power,” she added, with her co-host Joy Behar noting that “this is [coming] from a Republican.”

“I’ve never voted for a Democrat in my life,” Griffin confirmed, before declaring Trump “wholly unfit for office.”

She shared that next week she is traveling to “battleground Pennsylvania” with Cheney and other ex-Trump supporters Sarah Matthews and Cassidy Hutchinson, to “talk about the threat that Donald Trump poses and why he should not be back in the White House.”

In an unprecedented joint appearance with Harris on Thursday (October 3), Cheney – one of the most conservative women to ever serve in Congress – warned voters of the dire consequences of re-electing Trump.

“I am a Ronald Regan conservative,” Cheney said at Harris’s Wisconsin campaign event. “Above all else, I know that most conservative of conservative values is fidelity to our constitution.

“Vice President Harris has dedicated her life to public service,” she said. “I know, I know that she loves our country, and I know that she will be a president for all Americans, as a conservative, as a patriot, as a mother, as someone who reveres our Constitution, I am honored to join her in this urgent cause.”

The following day, Trump attacked Cheney on his Truth Social platform, calling her a “low IQ War Hawk.”

Trump also slammed Cheney’s father, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, who served alongside President George W Bush, claiming he “was a leader of our ridiculous journey into the Middle East, where Trillions of Dollars were spent, millions of people were killed – and for what? NOTHING!”

“What a pathetic couple that is, both suffering gravely from Trump Derangement Syndrome. Good Luck to them both!!!” he wrote.
