Vanessa Feltz breaks silence on This Morning co-star Phillip Schofield’s TV return

VANESSA Feltz has revealed she’s “delighted” by Phillip Schofield’s shock return to television.

The Sun exclusively revealed that Phillip, 62, has filmed a three-part series on Channel 5 called Cast Away that sees him marooned alone on an island near Madagascar.

It’s his first telly appearance since he walked away from ITV early last year after admitting to lying about an affair with a young male colleague.

Broadcaster Vanessa, 62, has known Phillip for years and is hoping the series will bring him some peace.

In an interview with The Sun on behalf of online bingo site Heart Bingo, she said: “I’m surprised, but delighted, and I hope it’s great entertainment, and I hope that he achieves from it whatever he wants to achieve.

“I’d like to see it, I’m intrigued to see it and I wish him all the very best.”

Though she welcomes Phillip’s comeback, the type of programme he has decided to return with isn’t what she was expecting.

She continued: “No, not at all. I see why he would have chosen it, although it’s not what I would have expected.

“It seems to me that he would have autonomy over it, he is the only person in it, he was the only person filming it.

“Just him and a camera for 10 days, so I think he would have felt as if he could could orchestrate it, it would be authentic, nobody would manipulate him, he wouldn’t sort of end up on the cutting room floor, because he was the person actually making the film.

“I suppose when you to some extent your career’s been derailed and your life’s been derailed, I suppose you would opt for something like that, that you could be in charge of, and also he’s a very, very seasoned TV professional and he knows what he’s doing.

“I’m hoping that he’s done a fabulous job. I really hope so, I hope it’s great.”

Phillip Schofield’s TV return confirmed as he ditches ITV for rival channel

In the first look trailer at Phillip’s Cast Away, the TV star is seen getting tearful as he muses about being “destroyed”.

He says: “I’ve been cast away on a desert island completely on my own. All I have is camera gear, I can say whatever I want about whoever I want.

“It’s my chance to tell my side of my story. I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”

The former This Morning host’s scandal ended his friendship with longtime co-star Holly Willoughby and left his telly career in tatters.

In an exclusive tell-all interview with The Sun, Phillip apologised for his actions to his ex-wife Stephanie and to Holly, though it wasn’t enough to mend their fractured relationship.

As his voiceover plays in the new clip, Phillip can be seen raising a hand to his face as he cries on the deserted Madagascan island.

Across three hour long episodes filmed over a nine-night solo stay, Phillip will tell his story free from any outside interference.

Explaining his decision to sign with Channel 5, Phillip said: “This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do. It appealed to me on so many levels.

“I’ve recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I’ve always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me. This time it’s just me, no ‘phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury.

“I’m looking forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and foraging and fending for myself in the wild … with no help. Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll just be Tom Hank’s Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder!!”

Ex-Jets host who accused Brett Favre of sending lewd photos has unsympathetic response to star’s diagnosis

Ex-New York Jets Gameday host Jenn Sterger has no sympathy for the team’s former quarterback Brett Favre, who recently revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The retired NFL star, 54, made the surprising announcement that he had “recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s” while addressing Congress on Tuesday (September 24) as part of a hearing on welfare reform.

Favre, who has never been criminally charged, was accused in a civil lawsuit of misusing funds from Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and receiving $1.1m, which he has since returned, for motivational speeches that he never gave.

Hours after the NFL Hall of Famer’s revelation made headlines, Sterger, who accused Favre of sending her suggestive pictures and text messages in 2008 when she worked as a Gameday host for the New York Jets, reacted to the news unsympathetically.

“I don’t wish bad things on anyone, but I know Karma never forgets an address,” she shared on her Instagram Story.

Sterger, now 40, previously alleged that she was sent unsolicited lewd pictures and voicemails from Favre during his one season with the New York team.

The NFL subsequently opened an investigation into the allegations; however, while Favre admitted to leaving Sterger voicemails, the league concluded that Favre was not in violation of its policies relating to workplace conduct.

He was fined $50,000 for “failure to cooperate” with the investigation.

Adding to her message on Instagram, Sterger referenced Favre’s welfare misspending scandal, saying: “Imagine being diagnosed with such a terrible disease & not having the resources to fight it bc some Hall of Fame quarterback stole it?

“Those are the people that need your attention, support, and sympathy,” she concluded. “And at least now, his pictures won’t be in focus. Mississippi you deserve better.”

Favre is not facing any criminal charges, but he is among more than three dozen defendants in the civil lawsuit over the misappropriation of about $77m in state welfare funds. The football legend has denied ever knowing that the money was meant for welfare.

Favre noted his charity had provided millions of dollars to poor children in his home state of Mississippi; and Wisconsin, where he played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers.

A Mississippi state audit showed that $5m ultimately went toward a volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi – which Favre and his daughter attended – and another $1.7m went to Prevacus, the company he invested in as it was working on a “breakthrough” concussion drug.

Watch terrifying moment Phillip Schofield battles raging storm that threatens to destroy his Cast Away camp

Phillip Schofield faces a terrifying storm that threatens to destroy his camp while he is stranded alone on an island in his new TV show.

Cast Away, which starts on Channel 5 on Monday, sees the This Morning legend on an isle off Madagascar, where he has to fend for himself and films his own intense journey.

And in a sneak peek clip of the first episode, things are soon thrown into chaos when the weather takes a nasty turn in the middle of the night.

On his first night in camp, Phillip settles in for the night after a busy day setting up his camp and building a fire.

He is desperate for a rest following a hunt for food, and tells the camera how hungry he is while closing his eyes as he holds the camera.

Phillip says: “I want to catch a fish that makes me feel full. I am literally going to sleep as I’m holding this. Anyway, there we go and um I’ll see you tomorrow.”

But suddenly, at 12.34am, a storm ravages the camp and, with no one to turn to for help, Phillip must hold on and hope for the best.

“Bloody hell. Disaster has struck, howling wind blowing through everything, it’s taken out all the front,” Phillip tells viewers while filming the drama on his night vision camera.

“This is about to tear itself to pieces and there’s still every possibility that it will. I wasn’t expecting that.”

The three-part series follows Phillip over the course of ten days and nine nights on the remote island.

The show will see him overcome the physical and emotional challenges being stranded brings, as well as allowing him time to reflect on what he has been through over the last two years.

The Sun exclusively broke the news of his TV comeback last night.

Phillip Schofield breaks down in tears and admits This Morning scandal ‘destroyed’ him in first look at TV comeback

Phillip was sacked from This Morning in May 2023 following a brief affair with a younger colleague.

He later lost his presenting gig on Dancing on Ice and has not appeared on TV since.

A dramatic trailer for Cast Away has already been released after the show was officially announced this morning.

It sees him in tears as he grapples with everything that has happened.

In the dramatic trailer, Phillip says: “I’ve been cast away on a desert island completely on my own. All I have is camera gear, I can say whatever I want about whoever I want.

Phil’s TV return

By Clemmie Moodie

SOME thought it would never happen. He thought it would never happen.

But, after a 16-month exile, Phil Schofield is back where he belongs — on TV.

A lot has happened in that time, none of it involving Phil. He’s gone from household name to household recluse.

I was the first person to interview him after his axing from This Morning, and he was a shell of a man. Pale, gaunt and shaking, he spoke, haltingly, in a whisper.

Nailing vape after vape, he thought his once glittering career was over. Many came out in support but he couldn’t face opening himself up for more scrutiny.

He’s said “no” to every opportunity that’s since come his way.

But the chance to reset on a remote island has proven too big a draw. This is a chance to have his say — raw, unfiltered and honest. Who knows what will emerge? (Only Phil, a few Madagascan crabs, and a Channel 5 edit suite will know).

It’s a risk, anything with TV cameras generally is, but worth taking.

Strictly: Hidden mics reveal what stars were really saying during first live routine

Hidden microphones worn by the stars of Strictly Come Dancing have revealed what the dancers were really saying to each other during their first live performance.

For everyone apart from the couples on the dancefloor, it’s impossible to hear what the dancers say while they’re performing – even though we can see their mouths moving as the music plays.

However, a new clip released by Strictly includes the audio from Saturday night’s show, and it reveals some intriguing insights into what the pros and their celebrity partners say to communicate mid-routine.

The most baffling moment was during Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas’s quickstep to “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone when the EastEnders star is lifting the dancer into a backbend and he says to her: “I smell like garlic!”

As Chris McCausland did his triumphant knee-slide during his Cha Cha to The Beatles’ “Twist And Shout”, he screamed: “Woooo!” In another moment, when his partner Dianne Buswell did a handstand and McCausland used her legs like an electric guitar, the comedian mimicked the sound of strumming the instrument.

During Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones’s tango to Madonna’s “Ray of Light”, Jones loudly counted out the steps and instructed Willcox to look directly at judge Craig Revel Horwood. When she finished the move and paused, she shouted “Craig!” and pointed at the judge.

In another moment the audience couldn’t hear, Vito Copolla tells Miranda star Sarah Hadland: “You are amazing!” when she successfully completes her routine.

Former Arsenal/England player Paul Merson’s “Vindaloo” dance, which caused some controversy, the ex-footballer chanted “England!” as he fist-pumped the air.

In a heartwarming moment at the end of JB Gill and Amy Dowden’s Waltz to “When I Need You” by Leo Sayer, the dancer excitedly screamed with joy as she hugged the JLS singer.

Last week, all 15 couples performed live for the first time before the voting – and first elimination of the series – happens this weekend.

At the top of the leaderboard last week were JB Gill and his pro partner Amy Dowden, who made a triumphant return to Strictly after being too ill to compete in last year’s series as she recovered from treatment for stage three breast cancer.

Their classic Waltz received a standing ovation from the studio audience. The performance also impressed all four judges, and saw them receive 31 points out of a possible 40.

Closely behind them was Love Island star Tasha Ghouri who stunned the judges with a celebrated Cha Cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s summer anthem “Espresso”. The influencer was left ecstatic after receiving a score of 30.

Miranda actor Hadland also received a score of 30 for her Quickstep to “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton – the highest mark a Quickstep has ever received in week one of the competition.

This weekend, Punam Krishan will dance a Foxtrot to Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”, while Chris McCausland will also dance a Foxtrot to “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” by The Tams. Find out all of the songs for week two here.
