1. Philadelphia Eagles’ DeVonta Smith and girlfriend Mya Danielle are engaged

Philadelphia Eagles star DeVonta Smith is kicking off 2025 with a win both on and off the field. Just hours after his game-winning performance against the Dallas Cowboys, the wide receiver, 26, proposed to his longtime partner, Mya Danielle, in a stunning rooftop New Year’s Eve moment. Danielle shared the joyous news on Instagram, captioning the announcement, “Went on a ROCK climbing adventure with my forever tonight,” alongside photos of the romantic proposal.

The couple celebrated their engagement under a flower arch decorated with roses, sunflowers, and greenery, with candlelight and a violinist adding to the intimate atmosphere. Dressed in matching sleek black outfits, Smith placed a dazzling ring on Danielle’s finger as a light drizzle fell, enhancing the magic of the evening. The proposal comes as the couple anticipates welcoming their second child together, joining their one-year-old daughter, Kyse.

2. Burna Boy reveals why he assaulted fan at Lagos concert

Famous Nigerian singer Burna Boy has opened up about why he kicked a fan during his performance at the 2025 Lagos Countdown concert. The incident, captured in a now-viral video, shows the artist abruptly leaving the stage after the altercation, sparking widespread criticism online. Social media users called out Burna Boy, tagging him as “the most arrogant Nigerian artist” for his behavior during the free concert, which reportedly extended beyond his scheduled performance time.

In response to the backlash, Burna Boy addressed the controversy via an Instagram story on Wednesday evening, attributing his reaction to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He explained that his strict rule about fans jumping on stage stems from his condition, which can make sudden actions feel startling. “Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD,” the singer wrote, while also emphasizing the effort he put into entertaining the crowd. He concluded by expressing his love for his fans and wishing them a happy new year.

3. South Africa: Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson is expecting her second child

Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson, the talented daughter of actress and producer Connie Ferguson, has announced she is expecting her second child. The actress revealed the joyful news on New Year’s Eve, coinciding with her 32nd birthday. Taking to social media, Lesedi shared a radiant photo of herself wearing a crop top and jeans, proudly showing off her baby bump. She captioned the post, “32 looking different. Baby bear coming soon,” delighting her fans and followers with the double celebration.

Lesedi, who is already a mother to her son Ronewa, expressed gratitude and excitement for this new chapter. The announcement was met with love and support, including a heartfelt message from her mother, Connie Ferguson, who wrote, “A very happy birthday to you, my beautiful Sedii. May God never take his hand off you in this season of your life. I love you more than I love bread and peanut butter and I’m so proud of the woman you have become.”

4. Coi Leray expecting baby with Trippie Redd

Rappers Coi Leray and Trippie Redd are preparing for a special collaboration—welcoming their first child together. On New Year’s Day, Leray, known for her hit single “Players,” took to Instagram to share the exciting news. The post featured photos showing her growing baby bump, close-up selfies, and moments with Redd cradling her stomach. The 27-year-old captioned the post, “I’m a rock star mommy 💋🥹 we ready for 2025 🖤,” as fans flooded the comments with congratulatory messages. This announcement comes months after the couple reconciled in August, following their brief romance in 2019.

The pregnancy also makes the baby a new grandchild for rapper Benzino, Leray’s father. Redd famously dedicated the song “Leray” to his ex-girlfriend on his 2019 mixtape, “A Love Letter to You 4.” While Leray initially expressed offense at the gesture, the two have since mended their relationship. During an interview in September, Redd revealed he had reconnected with Leray via DM, referring to her as “my boo.”

5. Oldest Olympic gold medallist Keleti dies at 103

Agnes Keleti, the world’s oldest living Olympic gold medallist, has passed away at the age of 103. A Holocaust survivor and five-time Olympic champion, Keleti made history in 1952 when she won her first gold medal at the Helsinki Games at the age of 31. She went on to secure four more golds at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, cementing her place as the oldest female gymnast to ever win Olympic gold. With a total of 10 Olympic medals, including five golds, Keleti became Hungary’s second-most successful athlete of all time.

Born in Budapest in 1921, Keleti’s early athletic career was interrupted when she was banned from sports due to her Jewish heritage. She survived the Holocaust by hiding in a village with false papers, while many of her family members, including her father, perished in Auschwitz. After the 1956 Games, Keleti moved to Israel, where she married, had two children, and continued her gymnastics career as a coach. Keleti passed away on Thursday at the Budapest Military Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for heart failure and breathing difficulties. She was just days away from her 104th birthday.
