A Recap of Kamala Harris’s ‘Call Her Daddy’ Interview

Published

A Recap of Kamala Harris's 'Call Her Daddy' Interview

If you had told me in 2020 that Alex Cooper was interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy, I would have looked at you like you had two heads. But we’re living in a brave new world, and from my perspective, there’s no one I would rather hear talking about the future of women’s reproductive rights in the U.S. for 45 minutes than the pioneer of the gluck gluck 3000. This Sunday, Alex Cooper hosted 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy to discuss the upcoming election, and it’s sent the Daddy Gang into a tizzy.

While some are criticizing Alex Cooper, who rarely covers politics on her sex-and-dating-focused podcast, for having Harris on her show, the interview yielded some pretty important takeaways. From revealing how Vice President Harris views the complex issue of women’s reproductive health to showing exactly why women’s media is always political, here are five takeaways from Alex Cooper’s interview with Kamala Harris.

1. Women’s reproductive rights are a crucial issue in the 2024 election.

At this point in election season, you’ve probably seen a lot of interviews with both candidates circulating on social media. However, it’s rare for an interviewer to focus on one single issue for their entire allotted time with a candidate. On Call Her Daddy, Alex Cooper broke that mold. Instead of asking Vice President Harris about her economic plans, her foreign policy positions, or her stance on climate change, Cooper centered her entire podcast episode on women’s reproductive health and autonomy. Aside from a brief conversation with Harris about her childhood, Cooper used Call Her Daddy as a platform for digging deep into Harris’s plans for protecting American women during her potential presidency.

Since Roe V. Wade was overturned in 2022 as a result of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointments, the gender gap has been widening. According to the New York Times, while race and class are still bigger factors in elections, gender is becoming an increasingly important indicator of how any given citizen will vote—which means that issues related to gender are more important than ever. By using her 45 minutes with the Vice President to solely discuss women’s autonomy, Cooper qualitatively showed what the numbers have indicated: reproductive rights are the most important issue in the 2024 election.

2. Kamala Harris understands that reproductive rights are not just about abortion.

When most news outlets discuss women’s reproductive rights in America, there is a huge focus on abortion. In particular, since Roe V. Wade was overturned, much of the discourse surrounding women’s reproductive health has been about whether or not a woman has access to abortion in her state. However, as women, we know that abortion, while important, is not the full story. For instance, Cooper asked Harris about her time as a prosecutor with a focus on sexual assault cases. When Cooper pointed out that one in three women has experienced some kind of sexual abuse in their lifetime, Harris responded, “Alex, thank you for talking about it, because part of the issue is that people don’t talk about it. And the more that we let anything exist in the shadows, the more likely it is that people are suffering silently.”

“Anyone who is shocked, confused, or upset that Alex Cooper hosted a presidential candidate who cares deeply about women’s reproductive rights on Call Her Daddy has not been listening closely enough.”

Throughout her interview on Call Her Daddy, Harris discussed issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, IVF and fertility treatment access, breast cancer screenings and pap smears, access to contraception, and chosen family. All of these issues fit under the umbrella of women’s reproductive rights—abortion is just one slice of the pie. On Call Her Daddy, Harris proved that she knows that women need the right to choose in more ways than one.

3. Kamala Harris knows that female economic empowerment is a part of women’s health.

Years ago, calling yourself “socially liberal but fiscally conservative” was a popular refrain. But in today’s super-divided political system, that won’t fly—and Kamala Harris knows it. These days, doing as much as possible to economically empower historically oppressed communities (including women) is essential to politics. In her interview on Call Her Daddy, Harris said, “One of the ways that we know we can uplift women to have choices is uplift the ability of women to have economic health and well-being.” Regardless of your religious beliefs or previous stances on women’s reproductive rights, you know this is true. The more financially empowered we are as women, the greater autonomy we have. Having a presidential candidate who recognizes that is incredibly refreshing.

4. Having a female presidential candidate is a huge deal—just not the way it was eight years ago.

Throughout her campaign, Kamala Harris has notably not played any identity “cards.” She has de-emphasized her identity as a woman of color in order to put greater emphasis on the identity of her opponent as a wealthy, white, male felon. This is in stark contrast to the first woman to receive a nomination for President of the United States, Hillary Clinton, eight years ago in 2016. Where Clinton wore suffragette white and talked of “breaking glass ceilings,” Harris has largely avoided topics related to her identity in interviews. In fact, in spite of the focus on women’s rights, she hardly discussed her own identity as a woman on Call Her Daddy.

Appearing on Call Her Daddy, a podcast that targets women with a listener base that is primarily female, is likely the biggest “gender card” Harris will play throughout her entire campaign. It shows just how much times have changed: Although it’s exciting to have another woman running for president, that’s not the only thing that’s exciting about Kamala Harris’s candidacy.

5. Just because Alex Cooper doesn’t usually cover politics doesn’t mean Call Her Daddy is apolitical.

Since posting her interview with Harris on Sunday, Alex Cooper has received massive backlash from fans and listeners who perceived Call Her Daddy as an apolitical podcast. However, just because Call Her Daddy is not about politics does not mean it is without political leanings. The messages that Alex Cooper has been sharing on Call Her Daddy for years—that women deserve to be sexually satisfied, that the modern dating scene is disempowering to women, and that women have the right to take control of their own narratives in the media—are inherently political messages.

Women’s media, especially women’s media that covers sex and relationships, is always inherently political. Cooper has been empowering her listeners to take control of their own sex lives for years, and there’s no reason why she would, or should, stop at the level of politics. Anyone who is shocked, confused, or upset that Alex Cooper hosted a presidential candidate who cares deeply about women’s reproductive rights on Call Her Daddy has not been listening closely enough.

Sabrina Carpenter Song You are Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Published

Sabrina Carpenter Song You are Based on Your Zodiac Sign

There’s no escaping the rise of Sabrina Carpenter. She currently has six songs on the Billboard Hot 100, her TikToks have gone viral, and her catchy music repeats on the radio daily. Sabrina’s quirky personality and witty humor have not only won the hearts of her listeners (T-swift included) but also landed her a very girly-coded arena tour for her most recent album, Short n’ Sweet. Her music is super versatile—it can have you tearing up on your commute or dancing in your room with a hairbrush. Although most of her songs are centered around relationships, her musical versatility means there’s an SC song that will resonate with any of the zodiac signs.

Sabrina has catchy attention-grabbing pop hits for the spunky Leos, songs destined to make the sad girl playlist of any Cancer, and spicy tunes that will catch the ear of all Scorpios. Whether you’re a self-proclaimed Carpenter or simply curious what the hype is all about, here’s the Sabrina Carpenter song you should listen to based on your zodiac sign.

Aries

To know an Aries is to know that they can’t back down from a challenge. Sabrina Carpenter’s song Taste is just that—an unapologetic challenge. Sabrina challenges her ex’s new relationship with his past fling. The lyric “You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you” is her friendly reminder that she’s been there and done that. Unashamedly calling out an ex’s lover? Now that’s true hot-headed Aries behavior. Plus, this song is the first on Short n’ Sweet, so it’s perfect for the first sign in the zodiac.

Taurus

Stubborn Taurus has little patience for unpredictability, which makes Please, Please, Please their perfect anthem. This song explores the familiar feeling of a developing suspicion that your new fling has hidden red flags. I imagine a Taurus subtly playing this song as a not-so-gentle reminder to their new partner, emphasizing the, “I beg you don’t embarrass me motherfucker.” As an earth sign, Tauruses like when things go according to plan, and Please, Please, Please is all about what Sabrina Carpenter will do if her relationship doesn’t go according to plan.

Gemini

This song (along with the entire Short n’ Sweet album) encapsulates the idea that Sabrina is just a girl like the rest of us—and sometimes when she falls for someone, she falls hard. Like a Gemini’s playful and free-spirited personality, this song is full of unfiltered cheeky lyrics, giggling-and-kicking-your-feet moments, and the butterflies that come with falling in love. Geminis love a good laugh and thrive in relationships that are genuinely fun—and out of all of Sabrina Carpenter’s songs, Nonsense is definitely one of the silliest. Plus, it’s a fact that any Gemini would kill the witty Nonsense outro.

Cancer

Cancers wear their hearts on their sleeves—they’re not afraid to love and love hard, even if they’re looking past some major red or beige flags. Lie to Girls is all about how Sabrina Carpenter, just like many girls, lies to herself in order to cling to a relationship or person in her life. In other words: Sometimes, girls are delulu. Sabrina reveals that men lying to girls is pointless because girls will just lie to themselves first (personally, I felt called out by that one). Let this song serve as a reminder to all Cancers to double-check their feelings for a potential partner who might be emotionally unavailable.

Leo

Espresso was undeniably the song of the summer in 2024, and Leo signs love nothing more than finishing in first place. Leos are the literal definition of that “me espresso.” They demand the attention of the room and bring a certain air of confidence with them that leaves a lasting impression. This Sabrina Carpenter single is a total earworm—just like you can’t get a Leo off your mind after you meet them, you can’t get Espresso out of your head. It’s a silly, danceable bop that has total fire sign energy.

Virgo

Virgos are the hustlers of the zodiac—their hard-working mindset makes them very practical in their day-to-day lives and relationships. But sometimes, practicality can shatter a Virgo’s hopes for letting go of expectations and falling in love. Slim Pickins is all about Sabrina Carpenter’s frustration with a dating landscape full of people who just don’t live up to her standards. The first line alone, “Guess I’ll end this life alone,” emulates the all-or-nothing, perfectionist mindset of a Virgo. After all, they don’t need anyone anyway—they’re pretty well off being their independent earth sign selves.

Libra

Libras love to have deep and intellectual conversations, exactly like the heartthrob that Sabrina Carpenter sings about in this catchy tune. Dumb & Poetic is all about falling for a guy whose personality is artsy, thoughtful, and super calculated. Sabrina’s love interest was smart but not too smart, read self-help books to seem woke, and picked the perfect poetry lines to recite in conversation. Although this intellectual façade might draw a Libra in at first, they’re also good at exposing a fake, just like Sabrina Carpenter does on this track.

Scorpio

The rumors are true—Scorpios are one of the kinkiest zodiac signs. For a Scorpio, life’s too short for boring sex, and this song encapsulates that same motto. Sabrina Carpenter is no stranger to openly expressing her horniness in her music. To many of her fans, most of whom are probably Scorpios, that outright sexuality is super empowering. After all, Sabrina Carpenter acknowledges what no one else will admit: Sure, romantic chemistry is important, but it’s equally important to have good Bed Chem, too.

Sagittarius

If anyone is having a post-breakup glow-up like the one that Sabrina Carpenter sings about in this song, it’s a Sagittarius. A Sagittarius is fiercely independent, so Sue Me is their perfect anthem. This song literally says, “So sue me for looking so pretty tonight.” In other words, Sabrina Carpenter is using this tune to let her ex know that she knows what he lost and that he’s going to regret letting her go. It’s exactly the kind of energy that a Sagittarius who knows her worth constantly radiates.

Capricorn

As a Capricorn, I can attest to the fact that Caps love a good set of rules—they just make everything better. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I love some good rules and boundaries in relationships as well. In Good Graces, Sabrina Carpenter warns her lover what will happen if he doesn’t act according to her rules. In the nicest way possible, she sings, “Boy it’s not that complicated, you should stay in my good graces.” It’s simultaneously a warning and a song about guidelines, which gives total Cap vibes.

Aquarius

Did I mention that Sabrina Carpenter’s songs get a little freaky? This song is both quirky and kinky, which go hand in hand with the weird, fun, outgoing personality of an Aquarius. Like Bed Chem, Juno is about sex that’s so good, it almost convinces Sabrina that she wants to be locked down with a mini Sabrina. I’ll admit, I audibly gasped and cackled when I first heard this song—and as one of the signs that are most in touch with their sexuality, Aquarians are sure to get a kick out of it, too.

Pisces

When Pisces signs are down in the dumps, they can often feel out of place or like they don’t belong. because i liked a boy is all about Sabrina Carpenter falling for a new guy, only to be painted by gossipy “fans” as a man-stealer just because of his ex-girlfriend. It’s her way of calling out people who are overly critical of her love life while feeling sad about being made an outsider. Pisces signs who have felt self-conscious about their dating lives will totally relate to the self-conscious yet defiant tone of this iconic ballad.

How to Help a Friend Going Through a Breakup

Published

How to Help a Friend Going Through a Breakup

There is no other way to put this: Breakups are complicated as hell. It doesn’t matter what happened, which partner initiated it, or if it was amicable or not, going through a breakup can be frustrating, sad, relieving, and confusing all at the same time for both people. There are plenty of books and blogs that explain how to navigate it, but truthfully, I don’t think anyone has ever perfected how to get through a breakup gracefully. And if we aren’t pros on our own, how are we supposed to know how to help a friend through a breakup?

If you’ve tried to support a friend who was going through a breakup or you are working through it right now with one of your besties, you know that finding the right thing to say to them isn’t easy, and knowing how to be there for them when and how they need you to be can be even more difficult. There is a fine line between not being supportive enough and being overbearing and saying the right or wrong thing. But rest assured, you don’t have to be an expert to help a friend through a breakup—all you need to do is keep the do’s and don’ts we are breaking down ahead in mind.

Source: Cora Pursley / Dupe

Do: Allow them to process in their own way

And just as importantly, in their own time. Breakups look different for everyone, and it’s not our job to tell our friends how they should process theirs. If they want to cry on the couch and watch Dirty Dancing for a week like Jess in New Girl, so be it! Alternatively, if they want to distract themselves so much that they don’t grieve at all, let them, but make sure that you are there when their emotions finally set in. The way they move on is their own decision, and as a friend, all you need to do is support them. Only intervene if and when there is cause for concern. For example, if they start excessively drinking or if they start to skip work or miss important deadlines, gently let them know you are concerned and ask them how you can help get them back on their feet.

Don’t: Talk badly about their ex

Now is not the time to say anything along the lines of “Thank gosh, they were terrible,” “I never liked them anyway,” or worse, “I knew they weren’t right for you from the beginning.” These comments are not helpful in any way, and they won’t make your friend feel any better. If anything, they will probably just get upset with you for never telling them how you really felt in the first place or start to feel judged by you. If they want to talk trash about their ex, they can do that, but it’s not your place to start that dialogue—even if they really were the worst.

Do: Check in every few days

Sending a text or calling your friend every few days to check in and say hi—especially if you can’t be there for them in person—will go a really long way. Ask them how their week is going, tell them something funny that happened, tell them about a new show you’re loving that you think they’ll like, too, and talk as you normally would with them. If their breakup doesn’t come up in conversation, that’s OK. Let them know that you are there for them to talk about everything or talk about nothing, and leave the ball in their court knowing that they have you to lean on if they need it.

If you really want to go the extra mile to let her know she’s in your thoughts, you can go beyond a text or phone call by sending a thoughtful little note via snail mail. Whether it’s something sweet and heartfelt or something a little funny to get their spirits up, Moonpig has endless cards fit for the job. Plus, all you have to do is pick your card and type out your note, and Moonpig takes care of the rest by sending it straight to their door for you. No more time wasted scrambling for postage materials or forgetting to stick your card in the mail on time—it’s basically the easiest thoughtful act you can do to let a friend know you’re there for them when they need it most. And right now, you can use our code EVERYGIRLFREE to get your first card sent for completely free! Here are a few we’d send to our girls in a heartbeat:

Don’t: Push them into dating

Listen closely: Your friend will start dating again when they are good and ready. I know we always hear the phrase “The best way to get over someone is to get with someone else,” but, really, when has that actually worked for anyone? Dating when you’re not truly ready to open yourself up again is a setup for more disappointment, and rebounding doesn’t make anyone feel good either. So leave the “let’s get you back out there!” encouragement at the door, and let your friend make the decision of when or if they will start dating again without the outside pressure.

Do: Make fun plans

Your friend probably has a lot of free time on their hands now, and while it’s important that they allow themselves some time to be alone, they probably don’t want to spend all of their time by themselves. Ask them if they are free to go out to dinner, head to a farmers market, check out a winery, go to the nail salon, or anything else you can think of that will give them something to look forward to. But take note: Whatever you choose to do, refrain from saying anything like “I’m just trying to keep you busy” because you never want them to feel like they are a burden or that their breakup is the only reason you asked them on a girlfriend date.

Don’t: Get in the middle

Especially if your friend and their ex were together for a while, you probably became pretty good friends with their partner during their relationship. This makes navigating a breakup all the more difficult—for the couple and their mutual friends. But remember that at the end of the day, their breakup is between them. You can support them both as friends, but be careful not to become a mediator or take sides. Similarly, don’t try to repair their relationship either.

Do: Help them see the bright side

Breakups are gloomy, no matter which way you look at it, but you know what they say: When one door closes, another one opens. This is the start of a new chapter for your friend, and it’s important that they start to see little glimpses of that as they move on. If there has ever been anything they’ve wanted to do that they didn’t get around to doing during their relationship (like a hobby they’ve talked about starting or the business idea they’ve been scheming but haven’t moved forward with yet), encourage them to go for it! Being able to see a life filled with things that excite them can help them be optimistic about what the future holds.

Is the Secret to a Happy Relationship Not Living Together… Ever?

Is the Secret to a Happy Relationship Not Living Together… Ever?

It took me five years to move in with my now-husband, and during that time, I lost count of how often we were pestered over our uncommon choice to live separately. I didn’t know it then, but we were unwittingly doing something TikTok now calls “living apart together” (LAT). While it was a phase for my partner and me, married and unmarried couples everywhere have embraced the lifestyle wholeheartedly.

There are countless videos of couples touting the perks of LAT, so I set out to investigate why, and more importantly, how people are doing it. Ahead, everything you need to know about living apart together, including why people are doing it, how it’s different from dating, the benefits along with the downsides, and how to know whether or not LAT is for you.

What is “living apart together,” and why are people doing it?

Cohabitation is off the table with living apart together relationships. Rather, you share a life together without sharing a home. While this admittedly goes against everything we’ve been taught about the natural progression of serious relationships, it can actually be beneficial for couples. Certified Sex Therapist Casey Tanner explained in a TikTok video that people in LAT relationships “say that living apart honors their individuality, honors their independence, and actually leads to them fantasizing about the relationship more.” Unsurprisingly, this can help keep the spark and passion alive since you’re not bogged down with the mundane duties of shared domesticity.

How is LAT any different than dating?

If you think living apart together is just another fancy word for dating, trust me when I tell you I thought the same thing. But Digital Creator and Negotiator Joanna Dahlseid—who’s been an outspoken champion for LAT—says that they’re two different things completely. She explained in this TikTok that when you’re dating someone, there’s an expectation that the relationship will progress. Typically, this means eventually moving in together, getting married, and so forth.

In contrast, “living apart together is a relationship setup where your end goal is to not move in together, or at least for the foreseeable future,” Dahlseid said. Essentially, it’s a committed, long-term relationship built around the premise that you’ll live in separate houses. You’re still partners, albeit without living together.

How do relationships benefit from LAT?

It spices things up

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and according to Jeff Guenther, LPC, that rings true for LAT relationships. “Living apart can turn up the heat because you’re not always around each other, so everything feels a bit more special,” Guenther explained in a TikTok video. Plus, there’s a factor of unpredictability that comes with living separately. Falling into a routine is natural when you live with someone, but this setup allows for more flexibility and changes in your routine; you’re not stuck doing the same thing day in and day out with your partner.

It gives you more time for yourself

I think we can all agree that carving out time for yourself is easier said than done. This is especially true when cohabiting with your partner because you unconsciously focus on them and their needs when you should be focusing on your own. Does their laundry need to be switched over? Are they running out of body wash? Blah, blah, blah. But this is where the beauty of a LAT relationship comes in. According to Guenther, your “me time” is already counted for with this setup; you don’t have to carve out time to give yourself special attention or tend to your needs. “It’s a relief not having to consider your partner all the time,” he said.

“Living apart can turn up the heat because you’re not always around each other, so everything feels a bit more special.”

Dahlseid echoes this, saying that living separately from her partner lets her maintain her independence and focus on herself first and foremost. She explained that while she and her partner spend time together when she doesn’t have her children, she still has days to herself. “And then on my parenting time, I’m mainly mom, and I’m doing my business… and I live my life, and we [me and my partner] talk on the phone,” she said.

You’ll likely argue with your partner less

While conflict is practically unavoidable in all relationships, couples are less likely to argue if they’re living apart. This is because there are inherently fewer things to argue about; you’re not fighting over who’s taking the trash out, keeping the other up late, or leaving dirty dishes in the sink—and you sure as hell don’t have to fight over how you’re going to decorate your space. “You get your space just the way you like it, making the time you spend together more about fun and less about chores,” Guenther said.

Can LAT potentially cause relationship turmoil?

The relationship will suffer without strong communication

When discussing the downsides of LAT, Dahlseid explained that, for her, the communication aspect is the biggest one. Because this setup typically involves going long periods of time without seeing each other, staying on top of your communication—texting, talking on the phone, and FaceTiming regularly—is vital. “The communication [needed] to stay connected takes a lot of effort,” Dahlseid explained. It’s not something you can skate with; you have to make it a priority and put your all into it.

You have to schedule time together

According to Dahlseid, actually scheduling time to be together is another downside of this dynamic. Unsurprisingly, this can get stressful, especially if you have conflicting job schedules or lifestyles. You still get to see each other, albeit sporadically, even with opposing schedules and lifestyles since you’re sharing a home; you’ll likely run into one another in the morning, at bedtime, or throughout the day. But you don’t get this luxury if you’re living separately. Instead, you have to actively seek out and carve out time to be with one another. Plus, this can also create a lot of anxiety over when you’re going to see each other again, which in turn might cause unwanted tension in the relationship.

“You get your space just the way you like it, making the time you spend together more about fun and less about chores.”

It can be costly

Even without the current astronomical cost of living, LAT can be costly—especially for married couples who are sharing finances. “LAT relationships come with the financial challenge of maintaining two households. For many couples, this option is simply not feasible,” Dr. Robert Riordan tells Brides. Instead of pooling your resources together, you’re allocating them toward an extra rent or mortgage payment each month.

Too much absence isn’t always a good thing

Likewise, Dr. Riordan also explained to Brides that too much distance might inadvertently cause more pain. “When we are deeply in love, we want physical proximity to the object of our desire. Distance from the object of our affection can stir up jealousy, insecurity, and loneliness,” Dr. Riordan said. When this happens, you or your partner might find yourselves seeking connection elsewhere with someone closer to you; you might unwittingly drive yourselves apart by placing distance between the two of you.

So, can living apart together make your relationship better?

If you’ve cohabited with partners in the past without success, LAT might be right for you. However, if you’re on the fence, there are some things to take into consideration. First, think about what your ideal relationship looks like and what sharing a life means to you. Does this mean sharing a home or supporting each other from the comfort of your own spaces? Take your time thinking about this since we’ve been preconditioned to think that committed relationships involve living together.

Additionally, consider your respective lifestyles. If you both work similar hours and share similar routines but still want to feel like you have autonomy in your life, LAT might be beneficial. Conversely, couples with conflicting schedules and lifestyles will likely suffer from this setup since they’re already spending more time apart. In that case, they’d benefit more from living together.

Relationship Expert and author of I Do (I Think): Conversations About Modern Marriage, Allison Raskin, explained on The Everygirl Podcast that more and more couples are reimagining their own relationship dynamics and putting a modern-day twist on theirs. “Different people like different things,” she said. “There might be marriages where people live in different cities or sleep in different beds.” And guess what? That’s OK. When it comes down to it, only you and your partner know what’s right for your relationship. Whether that means living apart together or sharing a home is nobody’s business but yours.

6 'Gilmore Girls' Outfits I'm Channeling This Fall

Turning the calendar to October can only mean one thing: It’s time for my annual Gilmore Girls rewatch. As much as I love the show for its beautiful, small-town scenery and ever-changing love stories, I can’t help but get excited for the characters’ early-2000s style, too. Although they’re mother and daughter, Lorelai Gilmore and Rory are incredibly different—and that’s especially true in the style department.

Through the seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, we get to know Rory’s preppy, put-together style contrasted with her mom’s colorful, loud, eclectic outfit choices. While the show’s costumes are undeniably nostalgic (you can definitely tell the show aired from 2000-2007), I recently got myself thinking about what Rory and Lorelai Gilmore would wear if the show aired in fall 2024.

These are six outfits I think the leading ladies of Gilmore Girls would be excited to wear during fall 2024.

For a Bit of Light After-School Reading

Sweater (Alternate Option) | Tote | Jeans | Sunglasses | Belt | Clogs | Socks

Rory’s iconic cable-knit sweater moment actually doesn’t need much altering to work in 2024. She’d cozy up under her favorite tree (before being spotted by Dean) in the same oversized knit that she did in the early aughts, but we think this time, she’d opt for Birkenstock clogs instead of her go-to converse. She’d also update her black backpack (later switched for her infamous yellow backpack) for a practical, carry-all tote bag that’s perfect for throwing over her shoulder and heading out the door.

For Breakfast at Luke’s

Jacket | Sweater (Plus) | Bag | Jeans | Sunglasses | Boots

Lorelai Gilmore was known for a funky sweater (and an insane amount of graphic tees), and she never was afraid to rock one that was, ahem… a little out of the box. We think she’d upgrade her pink dog sweater (could this have been a foreshadowing of Paul Anka?) for this year’s Ralph Lauren version, but she’d make it feel a bit more eclectic through styling. She’d opt for vintage knee-high boots (that she’s had in the back of her closet for 20 years, of course), a leather jacket, and a printed, statement-making bag.

For the First Day at Yale Daily News

Socks | Loafers | Tote | Sweater Tee (Plus) | Jeans

Rory’s style really started to transform at Yale and after graduation (dare we say that she may have been inspired by her grandmother, Emily Gilmore?). Each of the pieces in this outfit—a sweater tee, dark-wash denim, penny loafers—are true to Rory’s classic style. Together, they create a sophisticated outfit that’s worthy of pairing with a pink ostrich Birkin bag (IYKYK).

For a Charity Picnic Basket Auction

Jacket | Belt | Sweater (Plus) | Jeans | Bag | Ballet Flats

We know Lorelai has a thing for shoes (I’m still envious of her boot collection), and she’d love pattern mixing by adding a pair of leopard print ballet flats to her iconic collection. She’d also be a fan of this fall’s barn jacket trend—especially a cropped one, like this option from J.Crew. Not one to go for an all-neutral look, she’d go for an unexpected color combination of navy and cherry red to make this outfit a little more interesting.

Boots | Sweater | Skirt (Plus) | Jacket (Plus) | Belt

Rory might have been onto something the day she decided to go window shopping with Lorelai in a camel-colored leather jacket and a gray mini skirt. This outfit can be modernized by pairing a brown leather jacket with a pleated skort, crewneck sweater, and knee-high boots. The varying neutrals in the original outfit helped to give the look some contrast, which is the case here, too. Sorry Rory, but the fishnets did need to go.

For Date Night at the Black-White-Read Bookstore

Knee-High Boots | Sweater | Mini Skirt (Plus) | Bag | Bracelet

When I first saw this sweater, my mind immediately went to Lorelai Gilmore. With stripes in unexpected colors, it would be a staple in her collection of eclectic knitwear. I think she’d style it for a date night watching Pippi Longstocking at the Black-White-Read Bookstore with a mini skirt, knee-high boots, and a red bag for a fun, autumnal outfit that screams “Lorelai.”

Taylor Swift Has Been Wearing NARS ‘Morocco’

Taylor Swift Has Been Wearing NARS 'Morocco'

It’s hard to muster up a mental image of Taylor Swift that doesn’t include her signature, bright-red pout. Over the past decade, she’s rarely been spotted without her signature red lips—they’re even a part of her Eras Tour stage makeup—to the point that it’s noteworthy to a Swifty’s trained eye when she switches it up. Case in point: When she recently rocked a more muted, cinnamon shade of lipstick at the VMAs, the internet went wild trying to guess what product she might have been wearing.

Well, speculation is no longer necessary. Taylor’s longtime makeup artist, Lorrie Turk, revealed the exact shade of her go-to lipstick on her Instagram stories on Tuesday morning. Alongside a picture of Taylor at the first Chiefs game of the season, she said, “It’s: NARS Morocco Lipstick. She’s worn it for years.”

While the lipstick was sold out this morning—the power of Taylor!—at the time of writing, it’s back in stock on the NARS website. The warm, cinnamon shade is available in both NARS’ original lipstick formula and their Air Matte formula.
