Doing your research before moving abroad is vitally important to know what to expect when relocating and it is critical to take into consideration all of the parameters before making the big move.
Hearing from somebody with first-hand experience can be a great benefit to know what to expect.
An expat from the YouTube channel Marika and Me Paphos Cyprus explained his experience of relocating abroad.
He shared how he was surprised by the cost of living in Cyprus in 2008 with it being more expensive than the UK.
The expat said that Cyprus has a “laidback lifestyle is probably what most people are attracted to”

The expat said: “When I first came to Cyprus in 2008, I’d research on the internet and it said Cyprus was very reasonable and very affordable but when I arrived here, I had a bit of a shock because, to be honest, it was more expensive than downtown Chester.
“Although that corrected itself over the next couple of years and prices in Cyprus came down. I believe that it is still much cheaper to live in Cyprus today than it is in the UK.”
He said that the locals are very friendly people and welcome everybody of all nationalities to their nation and “most of them are very helpful as well”.
“I can spend many an hour sitting with Cypriot friends of mine,” explained the expat. “They are very friendly.”
The cost of living in Cyprus varies depending on what you buy whether you stick to brands you know or vary to adopting the local produce.
The expat explained: “As an expat, we will tend to buy brands that we recognise, so you’re probably going to pay a premium for many of those.
“Up in many of the villages, you’ll find many local producers of fruits and vegetables. Now not only will it be even better than the fruits and vegetables in the supermarkets but in general, you will save a little bit of money.”
He said that the fruits and vegetables are very fresh and top quality with them being locally sourced or having to be transported only a minimal distance.
The expat said that people who live in Cyprus tend to live a relaxed, easygoing lifestyle

The weather, to no surprise, is one of the biggest benefits for people moving abroad and it plays into the lifestyle Cypriots and expats like to live.
The expat explained: “Primarily, I think most people from the likes of Northern Europe move to the likes of Cyprus because of its relaxed, easygoing lifestyle. The laidback lifestyle is probably what most people are attracted to.”
The only negative the expat could find after lengthy deliberation was the extent of heat that hits the nation during the summer.
He said: “It is a little bit hot come the end of June, July and August but that is what air conditioning is for. There are not many negatives.”
