Spain continues to attract expats with its welcoming atmosphere, laid-back lifestyle and it’s nice, warm weather.
A relaxed pace of life too makes Spain particularly appealing for those seeking an escape from the hectic routines they may have become accustomed to.
Maia, an expat from the YouTube channel, Tice Travel Time who has experienced Spanish life first-hand, shared her insights into what makes the country special for newcomers.
The expat said that she was met with exceptional kindness from the Spanish people.

Maia said: “The first thing and this isn’t necessarily a shock but Spanish people are so kind.
“They genuinely are just very nice people, everyone’s very kind to people that don’t speak Spanish and they’re very inviting.
“They make sure that it is an inclusive environment even if you don’t speak Spanish or you’re new to the area which was beautiful.”
She said that she formed a special connection with the Spanish people and was able to get very close to them.
“I really like how I got know the local people, I got so much closer with them, they were way more willing to open up and be my friend and that was really nice,” explained the expat.
Daily life in Spain comes with its own unique rhythms, particularly around business hours.
Maia said: “If you are visiting Spain, a lot of businesses are closed during the siesta time, between one and three.
“Sundays in Spain, everything is closed. The food stores and a lot of the local shops are closed. They are generally a day that people are together. You can still eat out, that is very common.”
The expat told people to expect a much slower and calmer pace of life. It feels far more peaceful and people seem to be enjoying life more.

The expat explained: “The pace of life in Spain is calm and slow. It is peaceful, people are up at noon, drinking their wine and enjoying life.
“If you are planning to live there definitely be prepared to be calm and relaxed.”
Another expat recently warned Britons of an unexpected con if considering moving to Portugal.
They said people need to stay wary because “Portuguese tourism can be a con, especially if you’re not in the tourism sector working.”
