The Lake District has been dubbed the best location for a walking holiday by travel experts.

It is known for its beautiful scenery with walks to suit every level of fitness.


Speaking to GB News, CEO of Global Travel Moments Duncan Greenfield-Turk said: “The UK offers a wealth of destinations that cater to a variety of interests, from stunning walks to serene beaches, all with options to suit different budgets.”

Discussing the best place in the country to visit for a relaxing stroll, he named the Lake District in Cumbria.

Duncan continued: “The Lake District remains an iconic choice for those who love walking and breathtaking scenery.

“With trails ranging from the gentle shores of Derwentwater to the more challenging ascent of Scafell Pike, the area offers something for every level of walker.”

More specifically, he named the villages worth visiting to get the most out of your break away.

The expert explained: “The picturesque villages of Ambleside and Keswick provide charming bases with cosy pubs and boutique accommodations. It’s ideal for those seeking an active yet peaceful retreat.”

The Lake District, located in the north of England, is easily accessible no matter where you are coming from. It is just 1hr 25m from Edinburgh, 1hr 30m from Manchester and Liverpool and 2h 30m from Birmingham and London.

Lake Windermere is one of the largest and most popular lakes in the area, spanning more than 10 miles in length.

It has attracted praise from holidaymakers and locals alike, garnering more than 4,000 reviews on Tripadvisor and receiving an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

One reviewer who visited the area penned: “Absolutely beautiful place even in the rain, lots to do and very central in the Lake District. I totally recommend a visit, so worth it.”

Another eager holidaymaker added: “A beautiful backdrop of valleys, hills and tree lines.

“Fantastic walks around the area and a fantastic range of activities such as boat trips, paddle boarding and lunch at one of the local cafes/restaurants.”

One more commented: “Lovely lake, very picturesque. Great day out.” Adding it had a “very nice cafe” and they gave it a five-star rating.
