» Congestion warning after ‘accident’ reported on M60



The accident is believed to have happened on the M60 in the early hours of Wednesday January 29 with traffic queuing to junction 12, the Eccles Interchange.

As of 7.45am all of the lanes had been reopened with the accident having been moved to the hard shoulder, but drivers were still warned to expect queuing traffic.

A statement from travel service Inrix said: “Queueing traffic due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M60 clockwise from J15 M61 J1, Swinton Interchange, to J16 A666 Manchester Road, Pendlebury. 

“Congestion to J12, Eccles Interchange. 

“All lanes have been re-opened after being held to remove vehicles from the carriageway.”

That same morning another incident, believed to be a multi-vehicle crash, held up traffic on the M6 near Leyland with two lanes closed and delays reported of up to 50 minutes.

The lanes on the M6 had reopened as of just before 7.30am but drivers were still warned to expect residual delays of up to 45 minutes. 

Members of the public have been advised to always call 999 in the event of an emergency as soon as it is safe to do so.
