» Horwich: Police seize e-bikes after reports of antisocial behaviour

Officers responded to reports of people riding electric bikes at high speeds in Horwich’s town centre and Old Station Park – “putting their own and others’” safety at risk.

Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) roads policing unit and its partner agencies have been working together to find out who was using the e-bikes and where they were being stored.

Yesterday, Monday, officers seized a bike in the Brazley area that was discovered to be used in the anti-social behaviour.

They also seized an e-bike in Chorley New Road after seeing it being driven without a licence or insurance.

The two e-bikers are to appear in court for a number of driving offences – including driving without a licence or insurance.

A GMP spokesperson said: “The Bolton West Horwich neighbourhood team have had several reports of individuals using e-bikes in a dangerous and anti-social manner, putting their own and others safety at risk.

“The team have had reports of these bikes riding at high speed on pavements in the town centre as well as being driven through old station park at speed.

“The Bolton West Horwich neighbourhood team along with the Roads policing unit and our partner agencies in housing have worked together to establish who was using these bikes and where they were being stored.

“The Bolton West Horwich neighbourhood team seized a further bike from the Brazley area of Horwich yesterday (Monday) after it was established that this was one of the bikes used in the anti-social behaviour in Horwich town centre.

“The riders will be summonsed to court in due course for a number of driving offences including no licence and no insurance.

“We urge anyone looking to buy or use e-bikes or scooters to check the legal requirements before purchasing and using on the roads and footpaths.”
