A cruel stroke of luck has cost Zverev the second set.

He was serving at 4-4 in the tie-breaker and controlling the rally when a Sinner return hit the top of the net and popped up before dropping over. It originally looked like it was going to fall back on Sinner’s side.

Zverev raced forward but was no chance to get to the ball on the first bounce. He then went 4-5 down in the tie-breaker before Sinner held his next two service points to close out the second set.

“Well, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. And that was a moment right there. A pivotal point for Sinner,” Nine commentator Todd Woodbridge said.

Jim Courier agreed.

“Spare a thought for Zverev,” Courier said.

“He did nothing wrong in this point and, still, he gets the short end of the stick.

“He was going to have a comfortable backhand to hit, instead, it dribbles over. What a stroke of luck for Sinner to make it over.”

He has lost the tie-breaker 4-7 and now trails the match two sets to love.
