Labor is often asked whether it would make a deal with the Greens in the event of a hung parliament, but on Today, Greens senator Nick McKim has just been asked whether his party would work with Labor.

Before he could answer, Liberal senator Bridget McKenzie interjected: “Absolutely”.

But McKim responded: “Honestly, I’ve heard it time after time after time, James. Labor, and for that matter Liberal leaders, they always say before the election, ‘We’re not going to deal with those terrible Greens’. I’ll make an absolute prediction here, and I’m very confident about this: if Mr Albanese needs our support to form government, absolutely he’ll be open to negotiating with us.

“We’ve negotiated with him, just in the last term of government,” he said, adding that the party had secured billions of extra dollars for social housing.
