Man dies after being hit by bus at busy junction in Leigh



At around 3pm on Monday, March 31, there were reports that  a serious collision had taken place around the junction of Atherleigh Way and Kirkhall Lane in Leigh.

Police officers, paramedics, and an air ambulance rushed to the scene as it emerged that a 69-year-old man, who was a pedestrian, had been hit by a double decker bus.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while major congestion was caused as police blocked off the roads while they dealt with the incident.

On Thursday, April 3, police have now confirmed that the man has died from his injuries.

Although officers have launched an investigation into the incident, they are now appealing for more information following the tragic update.

Detective Constable Nick Rhodes from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Since the incident we have conducted a number of lines of enquiries to establish exactly what happened but are now appealing to anyone who was in the area to please get in touch.

“This can be through a personal eyewitness account, or the submission of dash cam footage to understand the movements leading up to the collision which has sadly saw an elderly man lose his life.”
