At Manchester Crown Court on Friday (May 9), McCauly Brooker and Stephen Wilson were jailed on the second day of a two-day sentencing.
Wilson, 29, was part of a group who chased after Brooker, 24, and attacked him with machetes, while Brooker shot a handgun at his attackers.

Brooker, 24, had previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, while Wilson also pleaded guilty to causing GBH with intent along with possession of an offensive weapon.
Wilson had faced a trial accused of attempted murder, but was found not guilty by a jury last year.
Peter Malone, prosecuting, told the court that on May 22 last year, Wilson was in a stolen car which was on false plates along with several other men.

The car followed an Audi driven by Brooker’s girlfriend before it parked on Chancery Street at around 8pm.
The men in the car had machetes, while Brooker, who then emerged from an address, was armed with a gun, with Mr Malone saying he was “ready for violence”.
Brooker walked past the car before realising who the occupants were and running off, as Wilson led the group in a chase after Brooker.

Disturbing CCTV footage played in court showed Brooker being caught on Busk Road and then attacked by Wilson with the machete, before the former used the gun to shoot Wilson in his upper arm and shoot at the other attackers.
Wilson got up after being shot, while the other attackers set upon Brooker, stabbing him in his face, arms and body, leaving him with severe stab wounds.
Mr Malone told the court that paramedics who arrived at the scene said if there had been a 30-minute delay in their arrival, Brooker may have died.

He was rushed to hospital in an unstable condition due to the multiple “gaping” wounds, while Wilson also attended hospital as a result of his gunshot wounds.
Mr Malone said the group Wilson was a part of had carried out a “near-perfect ambush”, although the motive behind the attack is unknown and the identities of the other attackers have not been discovered.
The court heard both Wilson and Brooker had serious criminal records, with Wilson’s including his role in a plot to break someone out of a custody van while Brooker’s included robbing a motorbike and arson.

Paul Hodgkinson, defending Wilson, denied that his client was “in charge” of the gang which carried out the ambush and argued that the other attackers did “most of the damage” to Brooker, while Wilson had only hit Brooker on the head with the base of the machete’s handle.
Mr Hodgkinson did accept that “if you get out of a car with a machete, you get what’s coming to you”, while Judge Suzanne Goddard KC said: “This is what happens when these people engage in this sort of activity.”
Mark Friend, representing Brooker, said his client had only shot the gun as a form of self-defence and said Brooker was not the “orchestrator” of what happened.

He also said Brooker had endured a difficult upbringing and was immature.
When passing sentence, Judge Goddard said what took place was “a disgraceful explosion of violence using deadly weapons on a residential street in Oldham”.
She added that the incident must have had a “serious, criminal, gang-related undertone” and that both men could have died during the attack.
Wilson, of Rosamund Drive, Salford, was jailed for 12 years and four months, while Brooker, of Southway, Eccles, was sentenced to seven years and one month in prison.
