A man has been arrested following a dog attack on a woman in Halliwell
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of “having a dog dangerously out of control”.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Yesterday afternoon (January 7), a report was made of an out-of-control dog biting a woman on Newton Walk. The woman suffered minor injuries.
“This afternoon, January 8, officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team attended an address near Halliwell Road and have seized the dog believed to be involved in the attack.
“We have also arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control.
“The dog has been taken to secure kennels to be cared for whilst the investigation continues. The man remains in police custody for questioning.”
As previously reported, video footage of the attack was passed to police on January 7.
The footage, sent to The Bolton News by a member of the public, appears to show the incident taking place at around 2.48pm on Back Newton Street, near Rawsthorne Park.
However, officers initially told The Bolton News the attack occurred on Wolfenden Street, just around the corner, while the latest police statement says the woman was bitten on Newton Walk.
The footage shows a dog, seemingly on a retractable lead, charging at a pedestrian and knocking her to the ground.
The woman is then seen attempting to get up and run away, only for the dog to tackle her again. After around a minute, she is able to stand and walk away.
The attack happened shortly before parents and children would have been passing through Rawsthorne Park at the end of the school day.
The breed of the dog has not yet been confirmed.
Anyone with further information is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police.
