Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faces further humiliation as he's set to lose final honour

The former prince has faced a dramatic royal downfall in recent weeks – but it’s not over yet

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to lose his final honour just weeks after being stripped of all his royal titles, styles and honours. The former prince, who is not just known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has had one of the most dramatic royal downfalls in history and it seems his humiliation is not over quite yet.

It’s been revealed tonight that the former Duke of York could lose the honour of holding the Freedom of the City of London which is one of the world’s oldest civic honours. The honour allows people the right to drive sheep across London Bridge and carry a ceremonial sword.

It’s believed Andrew has the honour as his late father Prince Philip was also a Freeman of the City of London. This same honour is also held by the likes of a few well known famous faces, including Sir David Beckham, the Express reports.

The Sun exclusively revealed on Friday that a spokesman for the City of London Corporation said: “Andrew received the honour by virtue of patrimony, which is inherited as the child of a Freeman. Applications via patrimony are not considered by our elected members.

“The City Corporation is listening, and will continue to listen, to concerns raised. And it will carefully consider the rules that govern how a Freedom is given — and the circumstances in which, and procedure by which, it can be removed.”

While losing yet another honour is a further blow to the disgraced royal, this loss is unlikely to have a massive impact on Andrew. However, it is just the latest humiliation the King’s younger brother may face.

Over the past few weeks, the 65-year-old has not only lost his royal titles but also his sprawling 30-room Windsor mansion, Royal Lodge, too.

After being booted out of the residence, where his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson lived with him since 2003, the former duke will be moved to a property on King Charles’ private Sandringham estate.

All of these huge losses for Andrew are the result of scandals surrounding his past ties and friendship with late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

However, Andrew has always vehemently denied any accusations against him.

His ex-wife, Fergie, has also felt the brunt of the scandal in recent times after a 2011 email she sent to Epstein was leaked earlier this year.

In the message to the convicted sex offender, she apologised to him for disowning him in the media and branded him a “supreme friend”.

Her spokesperson insisted she had sent the message out of fear at the time. In light of the scandal, several charities who Fergie worked closely with dropped the former duchess and her life has also come crumbling down after being booted out of her former home.
