Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, won this year’s ITV I’m A Celebrity

Angry Ginge has amassed a substantial fortune since achieving stardom. The social media personality was crowned the winner on Sunday night of this year’s ITV I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The 23 year old saw off the challenge from contestants including Lisa Riley, Ruby Wax OBE, Martin Kemp, his mate Aitch and Jack Osbourne.

The content creator, whose actual name is Morgan Burtwistle, has been remarkably candid about his modest beginnings in Salford, where he was raised by his mother alone. But how has the lad who kicked off his career in a “s***hole” flat he rented, lacking a shower and featuring peeling wallpaper, managed to accumulate such wealth?

Over the past year alone, he’s estimated to have earned an eye-watering sum between £804,000 and £1.1 million – purely from social media platforms. This represents a dramatic transformation from his inaugural Twitch broadcast.

Morgan began his journey five years ago on the streaming service, where viewers can watch and transmit live content, typically gaming material. Through this platform, creators can generate income via subscriptions, advertisements and Bits, a digital currency that allows fans to support their favourite streamers, reports the Mirror.

His debut video, featuring FIFA gameplay in October 2020, took cues from Castro1021. However, his initial stream attracted merely 40 viewers, earning him a modest £12.44.

After several months of launching his channel, he stepped back having averaged just six to seven viewers. A year on, he made his comeback with consistent weekday streaming and subsequently built up an enormous subscriber base.

He also expanded to other platforms, including YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. On Twitch alone, he commands nearly 1.5 million followers, an impressive 883,000 subscribers on YouTube, 1.3 million followers on Instagram and close to two million on TikTok.

Discussing his rise to fame previously, Morgan explained to indy100: “I think it’s gone down well because people can relate that I’ve come from the same place they’ve come from. I’ve come from a council estate and I know what they go through and have been through and can bond with them and get to know them more on a personal level.”

Morgan put aside £350 to lease the flat where his career began, a space he dubbed “the pub” as followers questioned whether he actually resided there. In a video showcasing his former room, which lacked a door handle, he exposed the mould and dampness covering the walls and ceiling.

The blue carpet appeared soaked as he offered viewers another glimpse of the space. He pondered his professional journey.

Beyond his streaming work, Angryginge has built a reputation for supporting charitable endeavours, notably Soccer Aid for UNICEF. During the summer months, he featured alongside Louis Tomlinson, Wayne Rooney, Toni Duggan and Jill Scott, helping to generate millions for disadvantaged communities worldwide.

Discussing his decision to join I’m A Celeb, Angry Ginge revealed: “When I got approached to be on I’m A Celebrity…, I said ‘yes’ immediately because it’s a bucket list item. I’ve watched the show on the sofa with my mum ever since I was a kid. To take part in it this year is something I couldn’t pass up on.

“But my whole life is spent on the phone. I’ve been away once for a week. And so, two to three weeks without it is going to be very educational to see how I will do!”.
