Armed police swoop in Sowerby after alleged burglary

Armed police shoot dog after attack in Bellhouse Way area

North Yorkshire Police said officers were called to a reported aggravated burglary in Sowerby, near Thirsk, shortly before 5.20am on Sunday (December 7).

A police cordon was put in place while negotiators worked at the scene. Police also used a drone as part of the operation.

The home’s occupants were brought to safety shortly after 5.50am and are being supported, North Yorkshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said the suspect was found inside a nearby property.

They said the incident was brought to a safe conclusion shortly after 12pm when a man was arrested.

“The victims have been safeguarded and are receiving support while the investigation continues at the address,” the spokesperson said.

Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of drugs with intent to supply. He remains in custody.
