Prue Leith has made an awkward admission about the upcoming Christmas special of The Great British Bake Off, saying “please don’t tell them”. In a festive edition of the beloved show set to air on Christmas Day, actors from the popular Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show, David Mitchell, Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie, Matt King and Sophie Winkleman, will take on various baking challenges.

Hosted by Mighty Boosh funnyman Noel Fielding and This Morning’s Alison Hammond, The Great Peep Show Christmas Bake Off will also see the stars face judgement from Bake Off icons Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

In a recent interview, Prue weighed in on the upcoming Peep Show special, but, in a slightly awkward confession, disclosed that she wasn’t familiar with the show. She then issued an amusing plea and revealed that she doesn’t “watch any telly”.

In a candid admission about her festive competitors, the 85-year-old told Woman’s Own magazine: “I had never even heard of Peep Show. Please don’t tell them! But I watched it and I loved it.”

She continued: “To be honest, I’m normally bluffing my head off with the celebrities because I don’t watch any telly. The only ones I’m likely to know are actors of a certain age.”

In other news, Prue recently left gardening icon Alan Titchmarsh stunned when she made a comment about vegetables on an episode of his ITV show Love Your Weekend last month (November 23).

Speaking to her fellow guest on the show, the Downton Abbey and Cold Feet actor Robert Bathurst, Prue inquired about his efforts growing his own vegetables, and what you do “with all the produce that hits you.”

She said: “If you’re growing vegetables, what do you do with all the produce that hits you in the summer? There’s all these b***y tomatoes and all these piles of spinach.”

Prue recounted: “I spent years growing and processing and what you do is you find yourself at midnight you’re freezing spinach, it fills the freezer, and then you’ve got far too much of it and you end up making room in the freezer next year for more spinach and putting that lot on the compost heap.”

She then went on to say that the supermarket has “perfectly good packets” for the amount of vegetables that she requires, instead of what she described as a “mountain” on Monday and “nothing” the next day.

It would appear that her comments left the green-fingered Alan slightly taken aback, as he retorted: “If only we could edit that out,” sparking laughter from the whole group.

He jokingly added: “Prue Leith famous cook, don’t bother growing it, it’s in the supermarket.”
