Beyond Paradise returns for a festive special this month and Kris Marshall has shared on This Morning that he’d like to see DI Humphrey Goodman fail to solve a crime for once

Kris Marshall is set to grace our screens once more as DI Humphrey Goodman in Shipton Abbott, tackling the endless stream of criminal activity in Beyond Paradise‘s festive special.

After the series concluded in May, the police team will reunite upon discovering that another offender is at large, complete with a seasonal element this time around.

For devoted viewers familiar with watching the quirky yet astute detective tackle fresh investigations, it comes as little shock that this will join the ranks of numerous solved cases.

Prior to his relocation to the tranquil village, Humphrey cracked mysteries in the original programme Death in Paradise, collaborating with law enforcement on the Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

During his tenure there, the detective consistently managed to connect the dots, maintaining an unblemished record of case closures, reports the Express.

Despite this remarkable track record, Marshall has disclosed his desire to witness his character stumble and break his perfect crime-solving streak.

The actor discussed his role as Humphrey during Tuesday’s guest spot on ITV’s This Morning, appearing alongside co-star Sally Bretton.

Chatting with presenters Ben Shephard and Alison Hammond, Marshall explored the contrasting relationship dynamics between his character and Martha, commenting: “They’re brilliant in their own lives.

“He’s got a 100% clean-up rate on any crime he’s got involved in, which is quite a number.”

After Ben agreed: “That is epic,” the actor admitted: “I’d quite like to see an episode where he doesn’t solve the crime.”

As Bretton shouted: “No!” Alison excitedly chimed: “I don’t think that’s ever happened; the fans wouldn’t like it.”

Marshall joked: “Just an episode where he goes ‘sorry guys, I can’t get this one,’ as he continued: “Sally’s character is an amazing chef and entrepreneur, and yet together they just seem to sort of not get stuff done, they’re quite quirky like that.”

Regarding the forthcoming special, the official synopsis states: “When Esther discovers a man on the steps of the Shipton Abbott police station with no memory, holding a photo of Humphrey, the team gets to work to uncover who the mysterious man is while balancing a flurry of festive cases.

“But with an influx of unexpected visitors, a slew of holiday crimes to crack, and a heartwarming reunion on the line, can the team juggle it all and still be ready for a life-changing reveal?”.

“At the same time, with the help of Anne, Zoe and a special guest, Martha races to pull off her secret plan while Kelby tries to help a mystery man trapped inside his snowman costume.
