BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent shared “horrendous” news on Wednesday (November 26) after a “critical incident” was declared.

Throughout today’s broadcast of the popular morning show, Sally and her co-presenter Jon Kay brought viewers up to speed with breaking stories from Britain and beyond.

They were joined in the studio by John Watson, who handled the sports bulletin, whilst Carol Kirkwood provided regular weather updates.

Sally and Jon discussed the forthcoming Budget as Chancellor Rachel Reeves gears up to reveal her fresh proposals later today. The presenters also covered the tragic story of 19-year-old Aidan Venison, who lost his life to a drink driver last June, reports the Express.

Further into the programme, Sally delivered a crucial news bulletin following a shocking incident that occurred in Oxfordshire this summer.

“A 39-year-old man has been arrested as part of an investigation into a mountain of waste dumped in an Oxfordshire field over the summer,” she revealed.

“It’s thought the incident near the village of Kidlington, which led to the Environment Agency declaring a critical incident, could be the biggest fly-tipping case ever seen in the UK.”

The suspect, hailing from the Guildford vicinity, was arrested on Tuesday (November 25) through joint efforts between the Environment Agency and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Anna Burns, the Environment Agency’s area director for the Thames, branded the incident as an “appalling illegal waste dump.”

She stated: “[It] has rightly provoked outrage over the potential consequences for the community and environment.

“We have been working round the clock with the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit to bring the perpetrators to justice and make them pay for this offence.

“Our investigative efforts have secured an arrest today, which will be the first step in delivering justice for residents and punishing those responsible.”

Phil Davies, head of the Joint Unit for Waste Crime, added that the EA “is working closely with other law enforcement partners to identify and hold those responsible for the horrendous illegal dumping of waste.”

He concluded: “A number of active lines of investigation are being pursued by specialist officers.”
