The Traitors viewers were left stunned after Fiona turned on fellow Traitor Rachel in the show’s most explosive row ever
BBC viewers were left stunned last night following the most dramatic confrontation in The Traitors‘ history – and it didn’t even take place at the roundtable. Audiences were astounded when seemingly scatterbrained former Secret Traitor Fiona turned on fellow Traitor Rachel Duffy, accusing her of dishonesty for personal advantage, having previously labelled her a “lone wolf”.
Speaking to cameras afterwards, Fiona declared: “I’ve thrown a grenade in – Rachel, you’ve got a fight on your hands.”
However, refusing to back down after being caught off guard by Fiona’s attack, Rachel hit back: “I’ve done nothing wrong,” Before insisting this was complete lunacy on Fiona’s part, she warned: “I’m coming for you!”.
The explosive Traitor versus Traitor clash occurred after former senior police officer Amanda was banished following an incredibly tense roundtable. It concluded with her losing a ‘chest of chance’ showdown against emotional sweet-shop worker Reece, after selecting the wrong box that didn’t contain the shield.
However, sensing she was at risk of elimination, Amanda had previously revealed to communications manager Rachel, 42, that she was a former Detective Chief Inspector with the Met, explaining she’d received specialist training in detecting deception.
Asking Rachel to keep this confidential, she pressed her to pay attention to what she was saying – having been particularly outspoken about her doubts surrounding certain contestants, reports the Mirror.
Amanda, 57, spoke about Jade, stating: “I would like everyone to know she is my number one target and you must take seriously everything I’ve said at the roundtable.”
After Amanda’s departure – having unknowingly selected a Traitor as her closest ally in the castle – Rachel informed the group about Amanda’s role, aiming to expose her misguided theories. Addressing viewers directly through the camera, she suggested that this would prompt the Faithful to heed the ex-detective’s words, diverting their attention from the actual Traitors and towards her targets, Jade and Sam.
However, the plan was thwarted by Fiona, a 62 year old local government officer, who dismissed Rachel’s claims as a self-preservation tactic. Asserting that she had “many family members who work in the police force”, Fiona was adamant that Amanda would have shared such crucial information with her, leading her to conclude that Rachel was being dishonest.
After confronting Rachel directly about her suspicions, Fiona spread her doubts among others before the groups convened, where she announced: “I believe that Rachel is lying – and I believe that Rachel is a Traitor.”
As Rachel appeared stunned, fellow Traitor Stephen was similarly taken aback, confiding to viewers his apprehension about their impending late-night gathering. “What just happened?” he questioned.
“What’s going to happen in the turret?”.
During the programme, he swiftly made his excuses and departed the kitchen, with the episode concluding as all three arrived at the turret in their cloaks, removing their hoods whilst regarding one another with suspicion.
A source revealed: “As rows go, that was a biggie. Unexpected behaviour, to say the least. Just goes to show you never know how people are going to behave in the castle. This will probably blow everything wide open.”
At the outset of proceedings, when distributing their cloaks, Claudia Winkleman instructs her selected villains: “You are a traitor now, and you must remain faithful to your fellow traitors until the very end.”
Whilst it’s relatively commonplace for Traitors to betray one another at the roundtable, open animosity during the group’s leisure time is exceptionally unusual, which helps explain why Claudia has characterised this series as “brutal”.
Rachel and Stephen had only discovered Rachel was aligned with them for a single day, following the revelation she was previously the red-cloaked Secret Traitor.
The tense confrontation between the two female Traitors occurred following Amanda’s banishment and Maz being murdered in plain sight – resulting in two ex-police officers departing the programme simultaneously.
