BBC The Traitors viewers are speculating whether contestants Jessie and James could be siblings after she defended him over a shield lie, sparking family connection theories
Viewers of The Traitors reckon they’ve sussed out another family link following a contestant’s “blunder” on last night’s show.
BBC fans were delighted to see Claudia Winkleman back in the Scottish Highlands earlier this month, with 22 new players attempting to lie, backstab and scheme their way to a £100,000 jackpot.
During Wednesday’s (January 14) episode, Faithful Harriet headed to the chapel to put two questions to Traitors Rachel and Stephen. Her initial question related to who they planned to recruit next, before disclosing her plan to unmask Rachel as a Traitor.

A tense showdown erupted the next morning when Harriet decided to share her doubts about Rachel with everyone.
While her gut feeling was spot on, Harriet’s breakfast revelation led her co-stars to doubt her intentions. Realising she was probably heading for banishment at the roundtable, Harriet decided to “sacrifice” herself, urging the group to examine Rachel, Roxy and Matthew more closely after confirming she was a Faithful.
Just hours following Harriet’s departure, the remaining players gathered for breakfast at the start of tonight’s episode, where Adam’s murder at the hands of the Traitors was revealed, reports Wales Online, reports the Daily Record.
Attention then shifted to James after he fibbed about claiming a shield during the earlier challenge. Fellow Faithful Jessie was quick to jump to her mate’s defence.
Jessie intervened, telling the group: “Can I just add please, because I don’t want James to get a lot of heat. If he was a Traitor, he wouldn’t be desperate to get one,”.
In a private moment, Jessie reflected: “It is hard because James is my best mate, but he has messed up really. I am an empathetic person. I do get why he took it, but it’s just caused a bit of tension that we don’t need really.”
Following Jessie’s swift defence of her companion, BBC audiences have begun speculating about a potential family connection between the pair.
One viewer posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Jessie knows James because he’s her brother,” whilst another remarked: “Not me thinking Jessie was about to reveal that James was her boyfriend or brother.” A third observer noted: “Jessie talking sense about James – glad she defended him because it was all a bit awkward,” with another similarly commenting: “Jessie defending James is giving related.”
Another fan questioned: “Bless Jessie going in to bat for James. Think she might have ruined her game plan defending him, surely they’re brother and sister?”.
The castle has already unveiled three confirmed connections, with Judy and Roxy as mother and daughter, Ross and Ellie in a romantic relationship, and Ross previously linked to Netty despite years apart. Speculation is mounting amongst viewers that additional undisclosed relationships may exist, particularly following the appearance of a family tree in the castle corridor.
