It comes after his honest comments in the recent episode

One of this year’s stars of The Traitors has responded after fans rushed to their support following comments made during a recent episode.

Traitor Stephen thanked those that were quick to message him with well wishes on his social media account. It comes following his emotional admission in the latest episode of the BBC programme, where the final eight contestants shared a dinner party together.

The 32-year-old from London is among the remaining players fighting to take home a cash pirze in the hit BBC series. Selected as one of three original traitors alongside Rachel and Hugo, Stephen now finds himself as one of only two remaining after Hugo’s early departure from the competition.

The pair have also navigated the challenge posed by undercover traitor Fiona, who found herself at odds with Rachel following a dispute concerning former detective Amanda.

Fiona’s time in the game came to an end shortly after the confrontation between the two traitors, leaving Stephen and Rachel to continue their efforts to avoid detection, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In Friday’s (January 16) instalment, the group came together over dinner to share intimate details about their lives. Each of them opened up after being asked what they would do if they won the show.

Stephen spoke candidly about his experience growing up on the Isle of Lewis and the difficulties he faced in accepting his sexuality. He revealed: “For me, I’m from a rural community, and for the longest time I kind of hated myself, actually.

“I lost my teenage years going to church, trying to pray myself ‘normal’, and for the longest time I’ve just really not liked who I am. Growing up we had very little, financially, but as kids my brother and I would never have known that.”

He went on: “My parents gave me absolutely everything they had to make sure that we had the most incredible childhood. It’s not until you get older, you start to realise the sacrifices that they make for you when you were younger. I just hope that I’ve made the people that know me outside of here proud.”

Following the episode, fans rushed to his support, commending him for his honesty and echoing fellow contestant Roxy’s comments to Stephen on the show that he should ‘love yourself, you’re great’.

Stephen posted several photographs on Instagram from his childhood home whilst enjoying “some much needed” downtime.

He wrote: “Back home for some much needed r and r this weekend – thank you so much for all the kind and supportive messages over the last couple of weeks and especially to those who have reached out after last night’s episode.

“Although I’ve spoken about my difficulties growing up here it has since become a real safe haven for me and I feel truly at peace every time I come back. All my love”.

The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer. For the latest showbiz, TV, movie and streaming news, go to the new **Everything Gossip** website.
