Beaverbrooks closing all its North East stores on Boxing Day

Jeweller Beaverbrooks said it was committed to continuing the longstanding tradition of giving colleagues an extra day off to spend time with loved ones.

In the North East, its stores in Metrocentre, Newcastle Eldon Square, Sunderland Bridges Shopping Centre, and Middlesbrough, Linthorpe Road will all close.

As part of its commitment to its employees, Beaverbrooks has also called on other retailers to follow suit and give its employees a day off on Boxing Day.

The company has confirmed that it will also continue its tradition of gifting all employees an additional week’s salary in December.

Having always championed a people-first culture, Beaverbrooks was recently recognised as the Number 1 Best Retail Company to Work For in the UK at the Best Companies Awards 2025 and placed 22nd in the Top 25 Best Companies to Work For in the UK.

For 2025, Beaverbrooks has also created 50 seasonal roles across its head office and selected stores nationwide.

Sue Cuthbertson, Store Manager at Beaverbrooks Gateshead, said: “Here in Gateshead, the festive season is always such a special and busy time for us, so having Boxing Day off means a lot to the team. It’s a chance for everyone to relax, recharge and spend time with loved ones after working hard to help our customers find the perfect Christmas gifts.

“Beaverbrooks is built on strong family values, and it’s great to see that reflected in decisions like this. Our colleagues and customers appreciate the company’s people-first approach, and we’re proud to be part of a business that genuinely values its teams, particularly with this longstanding tradition of Boxing Day closures.”
