It’s an all-Premier League affair as Manchester United take on Brighton in Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Old Trafford.
It’s been confirmed that Darren Fletcher will once again take charge following the departure of Ruben Amorim earlier this week.
His audition didn’t get off to the best of starts as United were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Burnley in midweek, conceding twice far too easily.
There were, however, some encouraging signs on the night, with £73.7m forward Benjamin Sesko scoring twice and skipper Bruno Fernandes returning from injury.
This looks a much tougher assignment for Fletcher and co, particularly given Brighton have won on three of their last four visits to Old Trafford – although they were beaten 4-2 there earlier this season.
The FA Cup, however, tells a very different story.
Manchester United have faced Brighton six times in the competition and have won all six encounters, most recently edging a dramatic 2022-23 semi-final 7-6 on penalties after a goalless draw.
In fact, Brighton have been eliminated from the FA Cup six times by United – more than by any other side.
That record may need to be leaned on this weekend, especially against a Brighton team who have progressed from 14 of their last 16 FA Cup third-round ties.
United are also facing a Brighton side who may just be finding their feet again. After a six-game winless run, the Seagulls have taken four points from their last two matches – including an impressive midweek draw with Manchester City at the Etihad.
