Bluey's David McCormack On How Kids React When They Meet Him

David McCormack is an Australian musician whose name probably rings a bell, but you might not be able to explain why… That is, until you hear him speak.

You see, he’s kind of a big deal in the world of parenting and children’s entertainment because he’s THE unmistakable voice of Bluey and Bingo’s dad.

That said, the reaction when kids find out he’s the voice of Bandit keeps him humble.

When asked on The One Show this week how kids react to finding out who he is, McCormack responded: “Well, often parents think it’s a good idea to introduce me to their kids as Bandit from Bluey. And they hear my voice, but then they burst into tears because it’s too much.”

“It’s too weird, you know? Like I’m not blue and a dog,” he continued. “And then sometimes they think I might have eaten Bandit or something, and he’s inside me.

“Yeah they normally get pretty upset.”

Co-host Christine Lampard then interjected that she couldn’t “cope”, let alone the kids, to which McCormack responded: “You see, you’re freaking out!”

Elsewhere in the interview, McCormack spoke about how when his two daughters were younger, they “loved” that he was the voice of Bandit.

But as they’ve gotten older, the novelty has certainly worn off – in fact, now it’s just embarrassing. He joked “it’s a bit, what the young people call, cringey”.

The voice star is joined by Melanie Zanetti (who is the voice of Bluey’s mum, Chilli) in the UK at the moment to celebrate the return of Bluey’s Big Play.

The live stage show will run in theatres across the UK and Ireland until August 2026. For more information, visit bluey.tv.
