The grim discoveries have seen an investigation launched
Emergency services have discovered the bodies of a man and child, thought to be father and son, in two residential properties in Dublin. An investigation is underway following the discovery.
The dad is believed to have been was 48 and the child aged 11 years old, according to the Irish Mirror.
Gardaí found bodies in west Dublin earlier today (Thursday) and have issued a statement to say that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery at domestic residencies in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 and Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
The emergency services were called to a domestic residence in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot this morning at around 8:30am. The body of a male, in his 40s, was discovered deceased at the scene.
After the Gardaí made follow-up enquires, they located the body of a male child at a domestic residence in Clondalkin. The age of the child has not been officially confirmed but it is believed that it the man’s son.
It’s understood the deaths are being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide, the Irish Mirror adds. The body of the father was reported to have been found in a shed to the rear of a property.
Both bodies have been removed, and both locations have been sealed for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardaí have notified the services of the State Pathologist and coroners. The results of the post mortem examination will assist Gardaí in determining what happened.
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer.
The two properties, which both have visible Christmas decorations in the windows, are about a 15-minute drive away from each other.
Local Councillor Francis Timmons said: “Bawnogue and the wider Clondalkin community are in shock and disbelief to learn of two tragic deaths,.
“My heart and thoughts go out to the families and friends devestated by such appalling loss, the whole community joins in grief of such unexpected loss, my thoughts are also with the childs school friends who are in shock and upset by there school friends death“
