Police have found a body in woodlands in East Suffolk in the search for a missing 78-year-old woman who has not been seen since leaving her home two weeks ago
Police have issued a tragic update in their search for a missing woman after a body was found in woodland.
The body was found in woodlands in East Suffolk on Monday, November 24. The discovery comes as the force were searching for missing Rushmere St Andrew woman Christine Murton.
Christine, 78, was reported missing the evening of Wednesday, November 12 after she was believed to have left her house that morning.
Suffolk police found the body in woods close to Stratton Hall, near Levington. The body is yet to be identified however Christine’s family have been made aware of the finding.
A file is being prepared for the coroner so formal identification can take place. According to police the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The search was expanded on November 22, with police releasing CCTV footage of Christine a couple of streets away from her house, on Chatsworth Drive at around 10.40am.
On Wednesday 19 November, police released CCTV footage which had captured Christine walking along a footpath on the edge of Nacton village. The footage showed Christine walking behind Amberfield Drive in the direction of Decoy Wood, shortly after 2:45pm on the afternoon she went missing.
Christine’s car, a blue Toyota Yaris, was later located at a retail park car park in Pinewood area on Thursday 20 November.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said: “Police searching for missing Rushmere St Andrew woman Christine Murton have found a body.
“Christine, aged 78, is believed to have left her house in the morning of Wednesday 12 November and was reported as missing that evening.
“The body of a woman was discovered this afternoon, Monday 24 November, in woodland close to Stratton Hall, near Levington.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
“Formal identification procedures have not yet taken place but Christine’s family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
