Bolton Council send extra teams to empty bins this weekend

Bolton Council apologised on Wednesday (January 7) after green bins were not collected and a number of wheelie bins were also missed last week.

They said their bin collection teams had caught up on missed collections from last week, and would aim to catch up on green bin collections over the next two working days.

The green bins are used for disposing of garden and food waste.

Today (January 9), the Council said they would be sending out extra teams tomorrow (Saturday, January 10) to empty remaining bins and thanked the public for their patience.

In a statement, they said: “Thank you for your patience. Our teams are continuing to work hard to complete all scheduled collection for the week.

“Additional teams will be out tomorrow to ensure remaining bins are emptied.

“For any individually reported missed bins from this week, we will make every effort to empty these early next week. Please ensure your bins are left out for collection.”

Bins are sometimes not emptied for a number of reasons:

• The bin was not put out for collection (for example, it was on private land within the boundary of your property)
• The bin lid was not fully closed
• Skips, parked cars or roadworks were blocking access
• Snow, ice or flooding

If bins are missed and none of the above apply, the council urges residents to contact them before 5pm on the next working day after the scheduled collection.

The bin lorry will then return to empty the bin within two working days.
