Find out when major supermarkets will be open during the festive season, but remember that opening times vary by location

As we are now well into the festive season, it is essential to be aware of the altered opening hours for your local food shops. It is all the more important as opening times vary hugely over the festive season.

We have put together a handy guide to help you see where you can and can’t venture to on December 26. While some locations may have general opening hours, it is always advisable to double-check the specific opening times of your local store as it could differ.

Bear in mind that these can vary significantly. For instance, Express stores might operate longer hours, while larger outlets could close earlier. Additionally, opening times may differ between regions, such as Scotland and England.

Boxing Day 2025 supermarket opening times

Morrisons

You can pop into the store on Boxing Day. Opening times are from 9am until 6pm. Use their Store Finder here for local opening times.

Sainsbury’s

The stores will be open on the 26th from 9am until 6pm with some operating from 8am until 8pm. Smaller Local stores will remain open until 10 pm. You can check your local operating hours using the Sainsbury’s Store Locator here for more accurate times.

M&S Foodhall

This will be closed across the UK on Boxing Day. Find your nearest store and its opening hours here.

Waitrose

Boxing Day will see stores closed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. However, they will open in Scotland from 8am until 10pm in some locations. You can find out your local opening hours here.

Iceland

The shops will be closed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It will remain open in Scotland from 9am to 6pm. Check our when your local store is open here.

Tesco

On Boxing Day, stores will open at 9am and close at 6pm. You can find your nearest Tesco supermarket’s festive hours here.

Co-op

You can check opening times for your local Co-op online here as many stores opening hours widely vary. On Boxing Day some will be open from 8am. It will then shut its doors at 9am. Meanwhile, some stores may also be open from 10am to 7pm.

Asda

Asda will be open from 6am to 7pm. Check your local store opening hours here.

Aldi

Lidl

On Boxing Day, Lidl’s Inside M25 will operate from 10am until 6pm. Outside the M25 it will be closed. Stores across Wales will also be closed, however, in Scotland, it will open from 11am until 5pm. Please see your local store for the most accurate opening times here.
