Brew York re-opens revamped Walmgate taproom today

The growing York-based craft beer brewery began the refurbishment of the downstairs venue last weekend.

The brewery, which celebrates its tenth birthday next year, said the taproom needed  some “TLC and updates.”

The adjoining Bavarian-style beer hall remained open.

Brew York says plans to evolve the space (rather than a perform a top to bottom refurb) are well underway.

Though still a work in progress, updates to the tap room will include:

*A new purpose built 30ft bar ( around meters) with 22 taps.

*Up to 8ft high glass screens allowing visitors to see the brewery in action whilst protecting against some of the noise of production.

*Four new beer serving tanks.

*Bar seating as well as table seating.

Brew York co-founder and Managing Director, Wayne Smith said: “I’m really excited about the first stage of our tap room refurbishment. The downstairs bar, opposite the brewery, is where it all started 10 years ago back on 1st Dec 2015.

“I really wanted to build upon our original ambition, ‘to create destination venues to enjoy the beer at its freshest in the best environment’.”

The positioning of the new bar, Brew York says, will give “the best bar seats for miles” giving customers a view of the brewery including an additional four beer serving tanks – holding over 3,500 pints of freshly brewed beer.

Wayne continued: “We’ve leant heavily on inspiration from US craft breweries, where the customer interaction is next level and they can sit at the bar chatting to the staff about what to try, whilst overlooking the brewhouse.”

This first stage of refurbishment finishes today (Friday) when the tap room reopens to the public, with further improvements planned for after the Christmas period.

Wayne added: “The changes will allow us to open the downstairs bar on a more regular basis – so come on down, pull up a stool and share a pint with me at the bar!”
