Brits told to look out for five coins that’ll ‘make you rich’

An expert has shared details of five UK coins that could “make you rich”. Combined these pieces could be worth as much as £19,700.

What makes these coins especially sought after is how rare they are. The lower a mintage figure a coin has the more valuable it typically is.

On top of this, the condition of the coin can determine how much collectors are willing to pay. In a video posted to social media platform TikTok an expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard listed five coins to look for.

All of these pieces are no longer in circulation but you never know, they could be hiding in an old coin jar or in the attic. The expert said: “Five coins that will make you rich.”

Firstly he highlighted the 1905 half crown. This is a silver coin featuring King Edward VII on the obverse (head side) and a crowned shield on the reverse (tail side).

He said: “A 1905 half crown with a mintage of 166,008. This can sell between £450 and £10,000.”

Next he urged people to look for a brass threepence from 1949. “This has a mintage of 464,000 and is [worth] between £9 to £700,” he said.

The coin is 12-sided and features King George VI on the obverse and a plant on the reverse. Following this, he talked about a fourpence groat from 1853.

This coin features the “young head” bust of Queen Victoria on the obverse, The reverse side depicts a seated figure of Britannia, holding a trident and a shield with the Union Jack crosses, and the words “FOUR PENCE”.

“This has a low mintage of 11,800 and can sell for £230 up to £2,000,” he said. Then the expert spoke about a shilling from 1851.

He said: “This mintage is 470,000 and you can sell this for between £100 and £2,000.” This coin is distinguishable by the words “ONE SHILLING” on the centre of the reverse and Queen Victoria on the other side.

The expert added: “Last but not least, we have an 1869 penny. No one knows the mintage and is very sought after.

“Between £25 and a whopping £5,000. Do you have any of these coins that could fetch you some serious dollar?”

The 1869 penny also features Queen Victoria on the obverse and Britannia on the reverse.
