Golpo serves traditional Bengali food and is completely alcohol-free with a range of mocktails on offer
A Cambridge restaurant has been recognised among the top one percent of restaurants worldwide. Golpo has been named on the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best list for 2025.
The award is based on guest reviews and feedback and is described as being “an authentic reflection of customer satisfaction and quality”. Rezaul Karim, the Kitchen Manager at Golpo, said it is an “incredible honour” for the restaurant.
He added: “It’s an incredible honour for us at Goplo and for the Cambridge Bengali food community. This really puts us on another level and all of the credit for it goes to our lovely guests who put their reviews on TripAdvisor and also the hard work of the Golpo team.”
Golpo in Bengali means story and the restaurant tries to reflect that through its food and service. The restaurant serves its traditional food in a “modern way and with warm service in a intimate atmosphere”.
When asked what dishes new customers should try, Mr Karim said: “There’s only a few because we cook it homestyle so we can’t do a lot. But recently we have added one of our most traditional dish to the menu called mum’s Bengali chicken curry. It’s cooked the same way our mum cooks it at home so we really enjoy that. It’s on the bone chicken that’s nice and soft.
“I would also recommend the mutton curry we do. That is one of our best sellers here. When the customers come in, we always ask them what kind of spice they like and we recommend what to have based on their needs. But if new customers come in, they’re going to love these.”
Golpo also is an alcohol-free restaurant with a dry bar that serves a range of mocktails and non-alcoholic beers and wine. Customers are able to bring their own drinks to the restaurant.
Mr Karim believes Golpo stands out in Cambridgeshire thanks to its consistency that he says is “key to everything” and making sure all of the food is prepared to a high standard while making sure guests feel comfortable. The restaurant has been decorated with Bangladeshi art to make people feel like they are eating somewhere in Bangladesh with Bengali music that keeps visitors feeling “calm”.
Despite only having opened in 2023, Golpo has already been recognised for a few different awards and wants to continue doing its best to win more. Mr Karim mentioned how the Golpo team “are proud to be a part of the food industry in Cambridge”.
Golpo can be found at 36 Hills Road. The restaurant is open every day from 12pm to 10pm apart from on Fridays and Saturdays when it closes at the later time of 10.30pm.
