The restaurant was given a score of 92 out of 100 putting it in the top 500 restaurants in the world.
A Cambridge restaurant has been named one of the best in the world by a highly respected guide. Midsummer Common was the only restaurant in Cambridgeshire to be named in La Liste’s top 1,000 restaurants.
Every year, La Liste releases a list of the top 1,000 restaurant in the world with scores out of 100. The guide looks at the best restaurants, pastry shops, and hotels.
It is built on “a unique compilation of over 1,100 expert sources and millions of online reviews” and has its own app that lets users find the best places to eat no matter where they are in the world.
La Liste gave Midsummer House a score of 92, meaning it made it into the top 500 of the world’s best restaurants. The two Michelin star restaurant was opened by English chef Daniel Clifford, whose “sophisticated modern British cooking continues to evolve”.
Midsummer House uses seasonal ingredients to create its various dishes that make up the tasting and lunch menus. The restaurant has a few different menus to choose from that range in price from £105 to £280.
The menus feature dishes like duck liver flapjack and cuttlefish served with a classic Bloody Mary cocktail. The restaurant is also currently offering a festive menu for the Christmas period. It includes roasted Norfolk black chicken served with Brussel sprouts, bacon, sautéed Scottish girolles, and a sauce Périgourdine, and a Christmas Pudding Soufflé Tart for dessert.
Midsummer House is in a Victorian villa backing onto the River Cam with views of the grazing cows on Midsummer Common. The restaurant has a window into the kitchen where guests can watch Mr Clifford, alongside his team, working on each of the dishes.
The restaurant is not only popular with people visiting the city but also regularly welcomes some famous faces. Mr Clifford said Lulu and Piers Brosnan alongside famous chefs and even Stephen Hawking have all dined at the restaurant before.
