A fish and chip shop in a Cambridgeshire village has been named one of the best in the UK. Churchill’s Fish and Chips in Bar Hill was featured in the top 50 list of the best fish and chip takeaways, as decided by Fry Magazine.
Every year, the Fry Awards are announced to “celebrate the incredible achievements of fish and chip shops nationwide”. The top 50 list is decided after months of judging by mystery diners on aspects such as food quality, cleanliness, staff, expertise, value for money, and ease of ordering.
Described as a “much sought-after accolade”, only restaurants and takeaways with the highest scores win an award. The pass mark for takeaways was 97 percent with a few businesses scoring a perfect 100 percent.
Churchill’s Fish and Chips offers a range of options in terms of fish including hake, scampi, and the classic cod. Alongside its traditional dishes, there are plenty of choices for those who do not like fish including pies, chicken, and burgers.
The takeaway also does a daily lunchtime offer that is available until 4pm. You can choose between a few options including small hake and chips or a posh fishcake and chips and they all cost only £5.

“Exceptionally high pass marks of 96 percent and 97 percent were set this year, demonstrating the consistently high shop standards in place. Their success proves that our nation’s favourite takeaway remains nutritious, great value and stronger than ever.”
Churchill’s Fish and Chips can be found at the New Mall in Bar Hill. It is open every day from 11.30am to 10pm apart from on Sunday’s when it opens at 12pm and closes at 9pm.
