Fire alarms were going off at the school on Tuesday night (November 25). Firefighters attended but there was no fire.
A Cambridgeshire primary school was closed on Wednesday (November 26), after a substation fire caused a power cut. The fire hit an electrical substation in Oakington, causing the power to go out at Northstowe Primary School.
A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The crew worked with staff from UK Power Networks to make the area safe.”
In a statement on its website, the school on Stirling Road, Northstowe, explained that the outage began on Tuesday night (November 25) and issues continued on Wednesday.
The statement explained: “Following an electrical substation fire in Oakington last night, parts of Northstowe experienced a power outage. Northstowe Primary School continues to face power issues and will remain closed for the day.”
A fire alarm also went off at the primary school on Tuesday night, and firefighters attended. A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “A crew from Cottenham attended a fire alarm at a primary school in Northstowe at around 9pm last night.
“No firefighting action was required and the building was left with a member of staff.”
