Celia victorious in Emmerdale ITVX release as legends lose everything | Soaps

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and their family ran out of options in Wednesday (December 10)’s Emmerdale – as they faced the fact that evil Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and her son/henchman Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) had destroyed their lives and left them with nothing.

Rhona and Marlon’s world was shattered only a few days ago, when their daughter April (Amelia Flanagan) admitted that she’d been dealing drugs after being coerced into it by Ray.

At first they thought that all it would take would be to go to the police and tell them everything, and before long Ray and Celia would be behind bars, but then April told them about the horrific incident when she knew she was about to be raped after being sent to meet one of Celia’s clients.

After absorbing this news, Marlon and Rhona still hoped that the police would realise that April wasn’t to blame and the real guilty people would be locked up.

A visit from Celia put paid to any idea of talking to the police, when she showed them real-time footage of Ray mercilessly driving his car straight at Dylan (Fred Kettle) – who is currently on life support as a result.

Ray has made it clear that he’s always watching the family and any chance of escape is futile. Rhona did suggest getting Cain (Jeff Hordley) and the Irish side of the family involved (Mystic Dingle will do anything for parkin), but Marlon rejected that idea because he didn’t want to put any more family members at risk from Ray’s murderous ways.

There was only one thing to be done, as Marlon saw it. They would raise the cash to pay back April’s debt, and then Ray would leave them alone.

He sold his car and organised a loan from the bank, which left a shortfall of three thousand pounds. Rhona said she’d get this by getting customers of the vet practice to pay their outstanding bills straight to her, preferably in cash.

She was totally unsuccessful at this. As Moira (Natalie J Robb) pointed out when Rhona asked her for the money, farmers were having a tough time and she couldn’t afford to pay any earlier than she absolutely had to.

Moira realised there was something else behind Rhona’s request and said that, whatever it was, Cain and the family could sort it.

This was exactly what Rhona wanted to avoid and she fled, without the cash. Later on, she admitted to Marlon that she’d been forced to take out a payday loan – with phenomenally high interest rates – to make up the amount they needed.

They just hoped that would be enough, but when they handed the cash over to Ray he made it clear that nothing had changed. The money would come in handy for Christmas, he said, but he’d never agreed that cleaning the debt would mean the family was off the hook.

In absolute despair, Rhona and Marlon were left to contemplate the fact that they were now badly in debt, while April was in as much danger as ever.

‘We thought we were doing a deal with the devil, but the devil doesn’t come close,’ Marlon said.

‘It’s over,’ Rhona realised. ‘Celia and Ray have taken everything.’
