Channel 4 viewers have all said the same thing as the “best show ever” returns for a two part special.
Tonight (December 8), saw a brand new episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody on Channel 4. The landmark documentary is a series that captures the real life drama within a local police force, following detectives as they investigate major and intense crimes.
The true crime series has become a huge hit with fans over the years who have described it as “TV gold”. Now, a brand new episode has aired as viewers are all saying the same thing just moments in.
Following the work of a police force, tonight’s special instalment was the first part of a two part special titled “24 Hours in Police Custody: A Family Vendetta”. It follows detectives as they investigate the killings of two men as Channel 4 teases: “How did child a child custody dispute become a double execution?”
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, true crime fans said the same thing within minutes of the brand new episode airing. One fan said: “Been looking forward to this (if that’s the right word). Rare to see a new one.”
Another wrote: “It’s rare to see a new one #24hoursinpolicecustody.” A third added: “Yay #24hoursinpolicecustody is back.” A fourth penned: “Wow, this one’s gonna be a wild ride.”
One fan was quick to comment on the harrowing scenes as they said: “Omg the phone ringing on the body cam with the other one filming the family trying to call the phone is haunting.”

One person simply said it was the “best show ever” as they shared their excitement for the series’ return.
Tonight’s instalment followed a double murder which saw a father and son both shot at their homes in two Cambridgeshire villages. Stephen Alderton, 67, was previously jailed for life in October 2023 after admitting killing Gary Dunmore, 57, and Josh Dunmore, 32.
The two part documentary on Channel 4 plunged viewers straight into the heartbreaking case as police first received the phone calls before making the connection. It was previously reported that Alderton shot Joshua in his home and just over half an hour later shot Gary multiple times.
The heartbreaking episodes will show viewers the police investigation, the manhunt and dramatic arrest as the force builds a picture of a harrowing family dispute that resulted in a tragedy.
With plenty of bodycam footage, fans were quick to share their thoughts as one person wrote: “One of the wildest episodes ive seen.” Another said: “Watching #24hoursinpolicecustody and oh my god…”
